Whats up NG, this is my submission to the sample battle for the 2011 Newgrounds Hip Hop Competition.
So i guess ill start off with what i did, so much to write haha:
Drums: individually mastered/chopped "Mother Mother - Body of Years" , also added the snare from "Antibalas - Elephant"
Bassline: so much fun rearranging and changing the pitches from the sample "Sufjan Stevens - They Are Night Zombies"
Trumpet: essentially created my own trumpet synth by looping a section of the sample "Antibalas - I.C.E" and making it monophonic instead of polyphonic, then i created my own melodies WITH this synth present at these times: 0:21 - 024, 0:45 - 0:48, 1:27 - 2:15, 3:03 - End
Guitar / Piano: Several different rearranged and re-pitched samples from "Yann Tiersen - Dust Lane", several rearranged and re-pitched samples from "Art Tatum - You Took Advantage Of Me" several rearranged and re-pitched samples from "John Zorn - Pacifica", all with phaser effects, soundgoodizer, parametric EQ
Strings: rearranged and re-pitched samples from "Sufjan Stevens - A Short Reprise For Mary Todd"
Peak limiter was used for every individual channel as well as the master. Please dont make me write out more details, I did way too much stuff to remember exactly what I did haha...

This reminds me so much of DJ Shadow's Endtroducing... and I love it. The fact that you took someone else's song(s) and made it your own is not an easy task, especially hard to make it sound good AND keep the listener in the song.

this is so gorgeous. I can just close my eyes and drift off somewhere to this. Amazing work man. this may be my fave track in the sample comp. This is going to be a great contest.
