My first valid attempt at bringing touches of techno/'space' music into my regular orchestral style. I think this turned out pretty good for a first try on the matter in a BETA composing program.

The whole thing is a slur between two keys and the first chord of each key... Certain transitional notes herald changes, while other changes are more dramatic. I tried to make things as legato as I could through changes, but, as you will see, some are more sudden. As the entire thing is minor, the feel of the song is certainly foreboding and ominous.

Was a part too loud? Did some note just stick out? Feel free to point out all and any issues with it, and I am sure there are plenty. It's best if you can comment constructively, i.e. offer a solution, but if you have no clue how to fix it but just find it off, it's okay to point it out anyway.

Very Nice!

Though the transitions aren't seamless, I very much enjoy the feel of this song!

You should definitely have classified it as Ambient though. It belongs in that category.

samulis responds:

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. :)

I have moved it to ambiance, and I plan to work on another song today.

It's called ambiance, the genre. And it's sweet. For classical, it sounds nothing like it. For techno, I see no resemblance to any other techno song I've heard. This is ambient music.

The song needs more dynamics, and that's it. But dynamics is a huge thing in ambient music, which is why I took off 1.5 score. The other 0.5 score was taken off because of the unidentifiable sweeping white noise in the background.

I love the feel of this song, and the shifts are in there, which is awesome.

Good work!

samulis responds:

Thanks for the help with classifying this... I never know what anything is nowadays... XD

The white noise was caused by the background synth, which has it sorta built in. I can run a pass on the file in Soundbooth if you think it really detracts from the song and cut it out.

I didn't see the space/techno

Try and make that come out more. I still liked it though.

samulis responds:

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, it was more 'classical' than 'techno' by a long shot, but the majority of the instruments were distinctly synths... only the cello was a recorded VST. When I make another song like this, I'll definitely use more synths and a faster tempo (as this one was 60 bpm, which is excruciatingly slow for most techno songs).
