Ok, not the most usual piece, but I put much time in it. I love the symphonies of shostakovich, so I think there are some influences.
I made it for the Orchestral NAC http://www.newgrounds.com /bbs/topic/1222598.

I agree
I agree with the two comments below me. Structurally, it is such a wonderful piece. Very well composed. I love the melody, and the style a lot. It really is a cool piece, but yeah, at the beginning, the whistle type instrument and the strings were just a bit too loud. I had to turn the volume down a lot, which would probably mean that I didn't get to hear some of the sub-melodies. I particularly like the last minute of it. I'm thinking that would sound so awesome if a live orchestra were to play it. :)

The composional structure is really nice. The melodies you've made and the way you've orchestrated it are nice.
The strings are a bit too loud though and the beginning sounds very static and unrealistic, it's a shame. Try working with some knobs, for example velocity. You can make a more dynamic piece that way. This unrealism gets less though, around the middle.

Really interesting...
When first listening to your piece and reading your A-C, i didn´t know who Shostakovich was and i can´t say that i ever heard any of his pieces. Been listening thru some of his work now and i can say that you have caught some essence of his work...
I say interesting because it is like you say, this isn´t the most usual piece.
It has different moods and does bring you into different scenarios.
One thing tho, the wind instrument in the intro kinda threw me off-guard. It was a bit too loud.
Nice one! and Good Luck in the competition
