My first try at a Baroque style song!

From now on, Everytime I post a song, I will list what I have learned and how I've implemented it into the song.

Features:
-Dialogue between Woodwinds + Brass and Strings
-I actually used different dynamics this time :)
-humanization of... everything.

Newgrounders, I'd love to improve my ability; please review :)

well at least its polyphonic. it sounds nice it flow really well but as for the orchestration, timpani feels out of place and unnecessary

<P Soooo Nice Dude!

IT Reminds me of Legend Of Zelda ... Its Nice Tho (>

Naerbu responds:

Thanks for the review :D

I miss playing Wind Waker. I might play again soon :)

It is a beautiful world...

My suggestions would be to continue using a string quartet together with the harpsi. and turn down the drums/keep the drums subtle. I don't know of any Baroque pieces with a rock n' roll drum entrance. Other than that, it's one of the best classical pieces I've heard on here.

5/5, 9/10
Cheers!

Naerbu responds:

Thanks for the review. I'll definitely keep the drums low in the future. My computer crashed and all the music data is gone. I'm getting back on track, though. I'm also glad you liked it.

Interesting...

Sounds like one of those classical castle themes but mixed with one of those forest themes at once. Yeah I'm in teh video game mindset here, but thats the best way I can look at it. I'm sure if you take one of the castle themes from Tales of Phantasia, and mix it with one of its forest songs, it would sound similar to this.
I'm sure you know what I mean by "castle theme" and I was wondering if you could tell me what that.... This will sound dorky, but that twangy piano like sound is? Not like what its called in the program, but like what the instrument itself used to make that is? I actually want to learn it, just hide in a room somewhere and play it like one of those classy villains playing the organs, and when someone enters the room, just turn and be like "I was expecting you...." ^_^ that would be so fun.

Naerbu responds:

That would be the Harpsichord, my friend. Not as popular today as it once was. In fact, they can be really expensive since the supply is low. If you really want to buy one, I'd recommend Harpsichord Clearing House (www.harpsichord.com). I personally don't have the kind of money for that though lol.

Thanks so much for the review. I'm glad you liked it and I'll be making more. This review motivated me :)

Renaissance would be more fitting...

... if not for the clavecin (or whatever it's called in english), of course!

Speaking of the clavecin, it didn't really suite the genre, you should've used a luthe (once again, I've learned my instruments in French, so I don't really know instruments in english, sorry...) It was also overpowering, should probably be lowered down.

Nice use of conterpoints though, the pieces really fitted one in the other, it gave a really nice progression to the song, wich is what every composer who takes himself slightly seriously should be looking for! :)

The only negative aspect of the song is really that the clavecin that starts at 0:21 and the bass that follows really don't match the wanted style, sounds WAY too electronic.

If I were someone who hadn't read the author's comments (surely 50% - 70% of Newground's community) I'd think the song was electro with a nice classical intro at that point. And that cannot pass in my book.

On a more personal note, the string entry at 0:47 wasn't quite how I'd have liked it. Even if the song was in 3/4 the whole time, the main theme there felt more binary than ternary, and that detail bugged me.

So, for a quick recap, slight adjustments in style, instrumentation and volume, and of course length, and this song's ready to roll!

Cheers,
Samuel Hébert

Naerbu responds:

Ooh so you're French? I don't know what a luthe is and I can't find it on google(did you mean lute?), but I think a clavecin is a harpsichord. You are right, and when it comes in, it seems sudden, right?

Thank you very much for the compliments and I'll fix the volume of the "clavecin" :P and I'll replace the bass with a more realistic sounding one.
