EDIT: Seems like Oney is having a birthday so I suppose I can dedicate this song to his drunken potato eating ass. So I obviously dedicate this allready completed track based on Ireland to him. Spares me the time and effort of actually making him a proper gift for all the jolly times I've had mastu-- I mean, watching his movies. Thanks for all the "laughs", Chris.

My entry for the Represent A Country 5 competition here on NG. The chosen country to represent was Ireland.

Research done for this track:

Mainly, I felt like going for a "Blood of Chuchulainn" (the Boondock Saints theme) feel with it and got curious as to what the fuck a chuchulainn was. Sounded like some lovecraftian horror. However, it turned out to be folklore legend and mythological figure of sorts. His name was Cú Chulainn (pronounced Kuuthollen). He was the son of the two gods Lug and Deichtine and among his many feats were such things as killing some dick named Ulster's dog in self defense (and we can all agree that killing dogs is a definite act of heroism) aswell as serving as a replacement for previously mentioned dicks guard dog, later on defending Ulster against an immense number of foes in what was to be known as the Cattle Raid of Cooley.

So apparently he killed dogs and cows. This dude is the Irish equivalent of Achilles, apparently.

Anyway, that was all well and good for inspiration, but now I felt "hey, some Irish instruments would be nice for this" so I found out that the Irish had what they called Great Warpipes which just by its name should make even the most lighthearted metalheads out there cream their pants. They were apparently pretty much identical to Highland Pipes so thats what I used.

I also chose to use a big old Grand Church Organ since Ireland is highly catholic.

Finally I threw in some explosions and a Meshuggah mindfuck guitar rythm just because I could.

Oh yeah, the title was chosen from what I read about that dogmurderer because apparently he was known for being quite a berserk bastard in battle. And becoming a frenzied vicious deathmachine on the field is apparently referred to as ríastrad.

I also went with a pretty strong punk vibe mixed with my usual excess of metal, since punk has quite a history in Ireland.

That should be enough god damn research.

Enjoy.

church organs are one of my favorite instruments, so the parts with that as the main instrument are instantly amazing. i love the punk undertones, as punk is my favorite style of music. not much else i can say about this, other than good job.

Lashmush responds:

Stopped listening to that band a LONG time ago so never heard it, I'm afraid. Will check it out though. :3
