I might extend this later and fix it up a bit. It was another one of those songs I didn't expect to go anywhere when I started. Then again, I've said this before, so chances are I'll never finish it...*sigh*

Anyhow, what images come to mind when you hear this song?

A first brush with a cocksure antagonist...

That's what it makes me think of. The first encounter with one of the main antagonists in a J-RPG, like maybe halfway through the game. Rather strange image, I know.

Anyway, I like this song a lot. This song definitely has a very strong classical vibe, just like most of the boss fights in famous RPGs. Everything sounds absolutely, superbly polished, and I adore the wide variety of instruments. I like how, at 0:12, it sounds like it is going to take a carnival-like direction, until the guitars kick in at 0:16. I enjoy how it shifts gears like that.

So, what programs do you use to make these songs? They all have a very high-quality sound, much more than most of the other songs on Newgrounds.
Whatever program you use, the instruments sound almost like the real thing.

All in all, this song freakin' rocks. This is probably your best work to date, I must say. You should really consider game composition, Kiiryu. This stuff is some of the most complex and orchestrated on this entire site. Your songs stand among some of the best video-game music that was never in a video-game! Great, great work. 10/10, 5/5.

Take it easy.

Thanks for the review.

I make all my songs with FL studio, and for about the last 8 songs I've only been using a single sound font. The soundfont itself is free and you can find it here

As for considering game composition, I can't say I haven't. It's just that game composition is one of the most competitive careers out there and I don't think I'm anywhere near the level I'd have to be to compete yet.

touhou?

kinda makes me think about touhou 12.8 (only one i ever played, but still)

just gives me this neo-retro feel with some fairy'ish influences, yet also some victorian'ish improvisation makes me keep my attention to it.

just great... to bad it's so short!!!

kiiryu responds:

Haha, yeah. I've never played any of them but I 've actually had a few people tell me that my style is similar to some of Touhou's music.

Thanks for the review.
