The Madman and the Toy Shop

Halloween2010, bitches.

Imagine, my friends, if you will...
You are walking along one day. It's cold out, a little grey and wet, but you just felt like a nice walk. Now you start feeling it... the cold seeps into your skin, the wet creeps into your bones... you want nothing but warmth and shelter. And then you see it...

The windows are bright with wizzing gizmos and plush animals. A ferris wheel spins while a train circles an miniature town... you look up at the sign. "Toy Shop" it reads back. The door is slightly ajar, and you feel a warm breeze wafting out... it's perfect, so inviting... so you step inside.

There are rows and rows of toys... displays of little armies holding fast... trains circle the ceiling, blimps float about the room, and the hum of wind up toys fills the air... you make your way through, entranced by this marvel from another time. But you notice something. The light seems a bit darker than before...

All of a sudden, from behind you comes a cheerful... oddly cheerful... voice, "Can I help you?". You turn around, startled, and see an older man, bent from age, smiling at you. But the smile is so sickeningly sweet, it scares you. "No... Im just looking" you say, a little off-put by him. "Well if you need anything, I'll be in the back" he chimes. "Just holler". He creeps through the aisles and disappears. That was just too weird... you decide to leave. But then you stop.

You hear this beautiful song. It's soft and melodic... it sounds like a little music box. It is so enticing... and sweet... you must find the source. You follow the sound and come to an open door. Inside the room it is black and darkened, save for a small light on the other side. You go to it... and realize the music is coming from it. It is a small, motorized carousel, with little lights and horses, all spinning around... you smile at this beautiful toy, you must have it... you reach out to touch it... and the music changes. It is deep and distorted now. Forbidding and almost taunting... it scares you. Makes you wish you'd never found it. You turn around to leave... the door is gone. There's just a shelf of stuffed animals now. You panic. You go to the shelf, throw them off, but there is still no door. The music is louder now. It sounds like it's in your head. You can't cover your ears. Can't escape it.

And then you see the man. He forms almost from the darkness. Except he doesn't look like an old man anymore. His face looks younger. Like... like he's turning into a child. But he's demonic... a grin stretched across his whole face, his teeth seem like fangs.
"Would you like to play?" He asks.

Sorry for the scary story! But that's the story behind this song. I hope you enjoy my attempt at a horror score!

Organs FTW!

I love the organs and how they give me a very dark feeling!
Now obviously, you know how to compose a very delicate
yet eerie song that fits with a BEAUTIFUL poem!

10/10!

AudioVision responds:

Thanks HiJack, for thinking the piece is both good... N SCARY!!!!

Eerie Quiet...

I feel like I am being stalked by a serial killer sewer rat who displays a rather rusty blade before slitting my throat slowly, just to hear my last ever cry for help..

AudioVision responds:

That sounds utterly delightful.

To sum it up, Winston, two plus two can equal five

I love simple music. Most new music is just too clustered. You pulled this one off perfectly. Sometimes, if you leave things simple enough, the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts. I listened to the winners in the Halloween Competition in genres I'd dare to listen to, and this one tops them all in my opinion. But then, my tastes don't reflect those of the average Newgrounds user.

AudioVision responds:

I WISH your views were that of the average Newgrounds user... I could have used a freakin' hundred bucks. :D

Now really...

Dude i don't know you, and you don't know me either. I'm a musician... to be more exactly, i'm a guitarist. I've listened your whole song with pleasure. It has a great structure and accents put where they should be put. This song could easily compete with the soundtrack from Tales from the crypt. The only thing you should change is the laugh from the end of the song. It would be FLAWLESS. 10/10

AudioVision responds:

By change the laugh, do you mean get rid of it or just make it different?
You can tell me on my news feed comments.
Anyway thanks for the good review!

Amazing

This song is so awesome, so epic that I am listening to it in school!! I would love to see this in a game. Great Job.

AudioVision responds:

BLAST IT IN SCHOOL SO YOU GET IN TROUBLE WITH THE LIBRARIAN BUT THEN SHE HEARS IT AND GETS SCARED AND RUNS AWAY.

Thanks for the review :D
