Man, I haven't uploaded in forever. I've been awfully busy lately doing arrangements for other musicians. I'm gonna try and make more time for my own compositions.

This is an epic, a musical portrait of hopelessness, 6 weeks in the making. The main theme in question is the psyche embracing the postmodern ideology. The title is in Latin and means "Unhealthy Mind in a Healthy Body." The title is in Latin not only because I am an intellectual snob :P but because the original saying is "Mens sana in corpore sano," which is "healthy mind in a healthy body." So I'm illustrating the contrast. And I call it "unhealthy" because postmodernism embraces the idea that the world is hopelessly broken. So my title is the postmodern version.

This is also my take on technical metal, which I've been listening to a lot lately.

Explanation of riffs:

Song fades in: descent into postmodernism from modernism; postmodernism begins
Section 1 (0:17 - 1:49): Post-modernism setting
Motif 1 = 0:17 - 0:47: Hopelessness
Motif 2 = 0:47 - 1:07: Realization that we are alone. Period.
Section 2 (1:50 - 2:30): Belief in irrationality (which is why it's not tonal)
Motif 3 (2:31 - 2:53): Subject's search for rationality
Section 3 (2:53 - 4:52): Religion (notice how tension builds then reaches a dead end, "God is Dead")
Motif 3 (4:52 - 5:13)
Section 4 (solo, 5:13 - 6:18): Existentialism; emphasis on the self and individualism, since religion failed
Section 5 (6:19 - 7:09): The world is irrationally cruel to the individual
Motif 3
Motif 2
Motif 1
Motif 2

I'm such an intellectual snob, aren't I? Now please review. I obviously put a lot of work and thought into this so please return the favor :)

FUN FACT: The song is in 15/8. The drum beat is 4/4 and other various meters but the riffs and motifs and phrases last for either 2 or 4 bars. Very Meshuggah-esque in that regard.

Been a long time!

Hey dude, I used to follow your work regularly. About a week ago, I was in the shower and suddenly thought "Wooh, I completely forgot about that awesome Newgrounds keyboardist!" Now, checking up on your account, I'm sad to see that you haven't uploaded anything new in a while. Regardless, I would like to tell you that this work is simply wonderful. The space sounds at 1:55, along with the mellotron ambiance, were a wonderful change of pace for you! And the tone modulation, I still remember how excited I was to discover that you had gained that capability. This is great stuff, man. An absolutely engaging and rich composition. Please keep contributing, your skill is truly worthy of recognition.

Twisted genius.

Weird, but excellent. Reminds me of Dream Theater, but weirder than anything they've ever done.

Its a metal opera i think one of the first....
or am i mistaking?? 9/10 5/5

Please return the favour on my new song!

adompeace responds:

I wouldn't call this a metal opera; yes it's dramatic enough but it's too short! XD I'd call it a mini metal operetta or just a prog epic but I'm still flattered you think that regardless :D And I will return the favor as soon as possible.

I'm a prog nut

So What can I say?

This is some of the most technical and emotional pieces I've heard in a long time. It's almost like dream theater or tool.

Basically, Keep going. you have got this prog stuff in the bag.
