Hy there.
Ever wanted to listen to "Your Own Thoughts" ? Now you have the chance ! </lame joke>
Actually this is out of doodling and fooling around in Mu.Lab with the new amp simulators and effects. Just 4 chords and a small solo improvising on top... then I added a bass... then udu drum (cause my wife likes the sound of that) then drums... and here it is... doodling the guitar & amps.

Gear used:
midi controler - M-Audio Radium 49
soundcard - M-Audio Audiophile Delta 192
preamp - Art Tube MP Project Series
guitar - Vorson V-190

Soft:
DAW - Mu.Lab
amp simulator - Acme Bar Gig "DIG" and "Dick Head", check them here, are FREE http://acmebargig.com/

EQ, compressors and stuff by Variety of Sound, Antress Modern Plugins and Blue Cat.
Track composed, played, sequenced and recorded by Mihai Sorohan in 2009.

Updated 14 December 2009
- changed some EQ on guitars and drums
- added a Hammond (to be even more Pink Floyd-ish)

Great song!

It took me a while to realise your song was in 5/4, thought does it change to 3/4-5/4 at 1:36?

Anyways, the irregular time signature adds to the Pink Floydish feel. ;-)

P.S.The ending kind of sounds like The Dark side of the Moon, don't you think?

sorohanro responds:

Thanx for review.
Actually the track is in the old 4/4 but the accents are changing (3+3+2) and that's making it seems to be 3/8 and 5/8. One of my favorite grooves.

I realized the "Pink Floydish feel" only when someone else pointed out in a review. Because of that I added a Hammond organ later (a virtual one).

Happy New Year !

Quality

Nice track, very good quality and nice composition (:

sorohanro responds:

Thnak you.
I just tried some new plugins and a new version of Mu.Lab (my main DAW), I consider that is quite good quality but I have much better ones ;)

Very laid back.

I love the mellow sound of this track. Your samples are really good, wish I had some like those.

I can't really give you any crit since there's not much that's wrong with this. The lower end of the guitar's sound doesn't sound good though.

I have a question. How exactly do you setup your guitar/computer connection? I know you listed it on your description, but could you elaborate on that please? I just use plug in my guitar to my amp, my amp to my Lexicon box, and the box to the computer with a USB. I don't use an amp simulator.

sorohanro responds:

Well, the good news is that you can have everything for free ;)
Percussion is made with Yellow Tools Independence Free, drums with Addictive Drums demo (only kick, snare, hi-hats and one crash) and for toms there is Kontakt Player Free. Bass with UVI Workstatio which is also free.

My guitar setup is much cheaper than yours, I have a fairly cheap preamp and from that I go directly in my soundcard. From there I put in my DAW all the rest of stuff (effects, amp, cabinet simulator).
