Hey yall!

So, this is a project I've been working on/off on for a while. The idea was to have an epic pirates feel -- in metal form. The recording you hear is about a year old, and I understand it's probably a bit obnoxious at points, but it was some practice with crude recording techniques and metal (and btw I've come a million more miles in playing ability from where I was on this recording; I'd eventually like to throw in some sweep picking, etc.). The reason I'm putting this out here is because, by Christmas, I'll have access to a brand new array of equipment and drums that should (and will) jump the sound quality up to heaven. I also would like a little bit of feedback - not necessarily on the quality of the audio, which I know could be much better, but more on the theme itself. I refuse for my final projects to have anything gay in them, so if you think it's 100% gay, let me not only know, but KNOW WHY. That way, I can produce a much better final version for all listeners to enjoy! Anyway, I hope you DO enjoy what I have so far, and any pointers on recording techniques, etc., would be much appreciated. I WANNA HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY!

P.S. This song is open to two things only: Praise, and Constructive Criticism. If I see an MFB (a.k.a. "Mindless Fucking Bash"), I will make sure to hunt you down and make your life a living hell. NG is a site for artists, MADE by artists. It has come to my attention that many people out here are douchecakes just because they like to fuck up everything, but that ain't cool. All I know is, you may have free will, but don't forget that I do, too. Feel free to zero my song if you want, I don't really care; just know that you better have a damn good reason for doing it, not NO reason at all. Because THAT'S bad karma right there (especially if you don't even bother reading what the author says. That's just bullshit, that's as rude as kicking someone in the 'nads).
P.P.S. The funny thing is, by writing all of the above, I know I'm inviting it on myself. But that still doesn't make it right!

Nice

I like, but the drums during the intro are off. Not sure particularly how, but it's a problem with the beat rather than the mastering. I like how it goes all heavy and then ends with the soft pads. Nice.

OH GOD IT (doesn't) BURN!

orgasmic. but gets a 9 for the fact it does become a bit of a mass of sound trying to stab my ear drums!

mr-jazzman responds:

Yep, that's true. I think I'm gonna redo this one in the future as well at some point. We'll see about it lol.

XD yep

you may be thinkin of the review he left me bad-man! but anyways...this song is brutal dude! i love the leads to this, makes me wanna fight a big rig XD. now the bad...drums have too much reverb man. it's screaming but i'm sure that's nothin a little teaking can't solve. and the soft part...AWESOME TOUCH!!! i'm a sucker for classical stuff...this is worth a download! great job man! hell since ur in San antonio, we should hook up and share recording techniques! XD

mr-jazzman responds:

yeah lol I totally would share recording techniques with you...if I knew anything about how to fucking record lol. I'm doing a lot of experimenting right now. And, the drums are SOOO easy to fix now, now that I have the biggest portion of my Sonic Arsenal. The drums are have a retarded amount of reverb on them, yes, I know...=( oh well. Like I said, it can be fixed. I'm gonna hook it up with a totally different skin of drums, you'll see what I mean in future renditions. Thanks for the review man, glad you liked the song! =)
P.S. And yes, it would be awesome to meet up sometime, like at Guitar Center or hookah or something!

Cool shit.

I read in one of your responses that you are thinking of getting a podx3. Any and ALL issues in regards to guitar will be solved there in my opinion.
Mine rules.
Can't wait to hear what you do with yours. :D

mr-jazzman responds:

Oh hell yes, so I was right then! Dude, that would be great =) I want one really bad now. Right now all I have is a simple Firebox... which isn't bad, it gets rid of all that annoying cracking, but it just can't deliver in badass quality because its a FIREBOX. A PodX3 is the preamp I'd need; I've heard great things about it, I've heard great things FROM it, and now you've just persuaded me to get one, without a doubt in my mind. Thank you so much for the review! This is gonna make a difference in my music for sure =D

Fuck Yeah!

I loved it. A short way into the song, you lost the pirate theme, I think, but it stayed awesome the whole way through. I'm no musical guru, so I can't nag you about equalizers and reverb. The only problem I had with it was sound quality, but that was explained in the Author Comments, and it's not a good reason to mark you down. Overall, amazing song.

mr-jazzman responds:

Hey man, thank you so much for the review. I'm exceptionally glad that there's somebody out here who bothers to read the Author's Comments, so thank you so much for listening and commenting! And I'll give you a little bit of advice on the reverb and EQing: If you have reverb on the drums (like an echo effect on the drums), then you're probably wrong...unless you somehow get it to sound good, which is exceptionally rare. And then, with EQing, nothing should overpower anything else (you shouldn't be able to here the snare drum way above your guitar solo, or something like that)...unless, once again, you use it stylistically. Thanks again for the review, much appreciated, and I hope that this helps you review songs with a little bit more production savvy-ness, if you know what i mean! ;)
