"Like haggard mentioned, its generic..."

date: November 9, 2009

...But still, its quite good. U put in a decent background and melody even though the instruments u used can be found ready on Fl Studio and can be heard in several songs around NG.

However, you put in good blend and there was a good drive towards the end. There were very little climaxes and you could've put in some more work on a heavier beat and a less repetitive background.

Overall, its a decent piece and well thought out. Not a bad effort, keep it up!

Unless everyone who owns FL studio is using z3ta+, my sounds used here are not FL studio ready sounds. Although, I guess it's impossible to have original sounds.

Thanks for the review.

"A little repetitve, but good drive"

by: Coop83

I think that this track can get very repetitive rather quickly and as a result, you get the urge to stop listening to it. Please take steps to combat this, by adding more variation, taking the track away from this standard beat and standard melody.

I think that there is certainly potential here, even with things like the vocal sample. Additional samples would really help the case, as would the introduction in changes of pace, tune, instruments and the like.

Variation seems to be my main problem with my songs, I'm not a pro with Fruity Loops but I would say that I have definitely improved vastly within the past coming months. I'm glad you have taken the time to review this and I will be very sure to try adding in more variation in my songs.

Cheers.

"Generic, but still nice"

date: November 7, 2009

Yeah, the song itself is pretty generic. The sounds you used can be heard in various songs here on NG and even the progression of the song isn't exactly unique.

But it still sounds pretty nice, the beat is driving and the song creates a good atmosphere. I also like the deep vocals you added in there sometimes. Those took away a bit from the "genericness" of the song.

Also, the song loops quite well. You fade in in the intro and fade out in the outro. This creates a pretty good loop, it sounds as if someone just turns down the volume for a second and then turns it back up to continue listening to this song.

Author's Response:

I'm glad you think my song sounds pretty nice, I suppose you're right about the sounds I used. Although, It's pretty hard to use sounds that aren't already used.. I'm currently using a addon with my FL studio that supply's a large number of sounds at least 5-6 are used here. I wouldn't say the song loops well, (It wasn't intended anyway :P) Maybe I'm best suited to loops as my variation in songs so far is crap. I hope I can improve further in my song making ability in the near future :)

Cheers!

"I heard that chord progression 50 times before..."

date: November 5, 2009

...But who cares, generic chord progressions don't necessarily make your song bad. Nice job, this is a pretty cool song you have here ;).

Melodies, as I said, were generic, and not the best I've heard, but still nice. Climax at 1:08 was well done, but I wished the song, at 1:36, would take a break from the main melody, and then the melody starts fading in slowly, along with some drums soon after. Well, I hope I'm allowed to use other songs as reference... anyway, take this song (remove spaces) as an example: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/277684 ...at 1:21, there's a break from the main action-packed melodies of the song. Something like that would do wonders in this song ^^.

Instruments are very nice, and not that generic. It didn't move onto that very familiar saw wave along with a few bells in the background and a bland kick beat like what happens in a lot of dance songs. Loved the square wave that first distinctly appeared at 0:13, and the one playing the melodies was quite interesting. 1:07, if I'm not mistaken, had a vocal sample. Nice job putting it there, but I would've preferred if you increased its volume some more. Good sound effects throughout the song though.

The transitions were all smooth, and some were very well done, like the one with the vocal sample at 1:07. All new instruments were introduced very well, too. Song structure and variety aren't so good though. It was just that same chord progression with the square wave playing for practically the whole song, and it got rather annoying. I'd prefer you removed the square wave, or even better, make it play other melodies, and leave the melody that its playing right now to the bass.

Intro was great. It started a little too softly, and I had to turn the volume up quite a bit to see if what I was hearing was a very soft melody or just silence, so you could turn up the first part a little, but other than that, excellent intro, with a cool sound effect that moved into the main melody at 0:13. The ending was a fade ending, and I really wish it wasn't, since fade endings almost never turn out that good. I can't think of any way to end it though, sorry :( ; just try and think up an ending which isn't too abrupt or wierd, and fits well with the song.

The drums, as Kirbyfemur said, were very good. Wish they were louder though; at times I wondered if they were even there. Still, they were varied (well, I *think* they were varied anyway... I could barely hear them :P), had nice samples, good beats, fit with the song extremely well, and I liked that you used a crash cymbal here and there to mark new parts in the song.

Overall, I enjoyed this song, although it has a few defects, namely fade ending, quiet drums/vocal sample/intro, and variety. Fix those, maybe think up a few more melodies too, and you have yourself a top-5 worthy song ^^.

Top 5 worthy song? Now, that really is a long shot. lol, After reading this review the first time I decided to change some things in the song, changed the intro and made the vocals louder, I'm not going to upload it because I'm actually now thinking I should remake the entire song.
variation, variation, variation. I need some..
Anyway, Thanks for the great review.

"Gotta love the idiots that already reviewed this.."

date: November 3, 2009

Lol, I mean come on, when he says "I need your feedback to improve :) and I will respond to every review" he doesn't mean be a fuck off and say "Oh good job, like it !" or "Fuck me now!"

Rant aside here's my actual review lol:
The beginning fade in was alright, but at about :11 it got a little harsh on the eq side. I like that it's fairly simple, not trying to go overboard with a bunch of sounds, but maybe more of a back-melody would be nice, some sort of fun breakdown part.

It loops nicely, and is sort of fun to listen to a couple times through.

I like the drum kit sound you've picked, mainly because it doesn't sound like every other electronic song i'v heard with that same hi-hat and bass pedal sound.

Anyways, nice job here! =3

At the 0:11, Ive toned that down already. I'm making some more changes and probably am going to remake this song or at least change somethings.
