I'm going to bed...it's been a long day now - but before I do that, I need to get this piece up here to ensure that if my computer somehow explodes and everything is lost - this piece will still exist.
I don't normally think of one piece that I do as significantly better than the others I've done in the past - for some reason to me though, this one seems different. I put a lot of effort into this...literally 13 straight hours. I think I got up at one point to get a drink and to turn on the heater and then maybe to boil some water for hot chocolate. Everything else was me in front of a computer screen and keyboard for half a day tweaking this piece.
It's been a long time since I've had the patience to put that much thought into anything, much less a song. The piece itself is a smooth, gentle, soft, and expansive combination of electronic and acoustic elements which sits in a way I find best calms my soul. I don't often listen to stuff that doesn't inspire me, and when I write...well - I try to write inspiring melodies and themes and then put them into a format that can be mixed as a song. I really think I finally did that here. No, it's not perfect. But I finally don't have to doubt whether I'll like it in the future. I think I always will. Some pieces I write and then realize they are garbage - some pieces I finish and then realize that I didn't focus enough on a certain section. I couldn't find anything with this one so far in listening to it like that. But you'll be the better judge in the end. Comments welcome.
