"Average...sounds experimental."

date: October 22, 2009

I really love the drum sounds, thugh I think they could modified a little. Definitely not your best. You used bright synths but I feel like they were failing to lighten up the room, but that's probably because they lacked this ...thing...the MH16 sound, you know what I mean? It sounded way too lame coming from you. Definitely not your best when it comes to overall sound and feeling. It's like a glum and dull person suddenly trying, unsuccessfully, to cheer up his friends.
The first 15 seconds were my absolute favorite, it was nice and simple but I didn't expect what came afterward much later in the song... it just sounded like it was trying too hard to sound complicated when it would've sounded great much simpler. I'm listening to it again for the 3rd time and it does sound better, so it may just have been a first-impression problem...but what I'm guessing is that your learning of theory and musical composition is messing you up like you said. It does make you more aware and less creative at times but it'll wear off :P

oh man what a wall :P lol

The MH16 sound.. lol :p
But yeah, this is not really one of my best works. I really hope that i'll find my sound back :p

"An average song, little dull."

date: October 21, 2009

Maybe not so much dull as it is just pretty basic for your standards. I think you've gotten much better for this to be your best, not that I'm saying this is your best. Frankly, I don't like the sound of the drums and percussion. Can't stand the sound of the snare. 1:15 and onward gives you more to pay attention to, all of a sudden your attention is taken by the song. I can't say that there is anything wrong with the actual song, nothing that really catches my attention. (timing, progression ect.)

Marks-a-lot has some good points. Even though it's not much of a replayable song to me, you do have some nice bass patterns and melodies. 3/5 6/10

Author's Response:

Hmm, like i said in response to Marks-a-lot's review, the opinions on the drums are varied. And yeah, this is pretty basic, but i'm having such a hard time making more complicated songs.
Thanks for the review! :-)

"kinda cool, but obnoxious"

date: October 20, 2009

but also disappointing. it was like a gift wrapped in colorful paper with a bow, then it happens to be something like a pair of socks. (i was originally going to compare it to a roller coaster of how it is fun in the beginning, but soon you get sick and want to jump off) the melody was nicely variated, but at certain points later on i just wanted to turn to my computer and shout SHUT UP YOU STUPID PIECE OF VISTA.

yea...
i was hoping for a little more depth out of the song. Musically, it was fine with a solid background, strong counter-melody, and a light melody, but it was kinda like a burnt flatbread sandwich (yup, another comparison). the parts are good, but it just doesn't go down right.

Author's Response:

Well, thanks for the review. It's ok that you criticise me, but please be a little more helpful next time. Sorry, but things like ''more depht'' and ''it doesn't go down right'' don't really help me. Thanks for reviewing though, because i DO appreciate it :-)

"Lets see if I still have the review gene in me...."

date: October 20, 2009

Forgive my rustiness but I have been through worlds of distractions these past months.

Well, I see you haven't tried changing your style that much. I would be able to tell this was your song from a mile away (or 1.60934 Km away) which is definitely a good thing. That style is you, your mark on the music world. At times it does get a little clustered but it's not anything that can distract a listener. Like the drums though, cool little set you have going on here. like the little flange on it to. The lead is kind of sharp at times, you might want to put a compressor on it or toy with the compression a bit more if there is already one on it. You could try working with the attack and decay of that synth to to maybe edge that sound in a little easier. Progressions are so happy and well made though. It sounds like you use the same scale in every one of your songs, now maybe that is just your thing but it couldn't hurt to change it up every now and then. I'm not going to say anything about the length of this song because I have listened to this song through and through a few times now and it hasn't gotten old. So it is a very replayable track which is another plus. You really do have a nice song in this one with some classic bass patterns and most delightful melodies. Some level work and a constant familiar sound through out the track could improve this one some more. So that's what I got, my opinions and suggestions wrapped up in this little review as a Halloween gift, do with it as you will. Have a happy end to October, and eat as many pies, cakes, apples, pumpkin seeds, and any other sweets you can get your hands on. One more tip, ALWAYS EAT THE LAST PIECE OF PIE.

Author's Response:

Yes, you have the review gene still in you :p
And the opinions on the drums are varied, but i'm glad you like them ^^
