This is my 2nd project for my composition class it had to be a text setting for robert frosts poem Fire and Ice I haven't had this performed but when I do I will get an actual recording of it but for now here is a sample of it

Lyrics are

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

tell me what you think, and if you think I should just keep it how it is to give it that N64/playstation1 maby final fantasy a little

I like what you did with this...

The volume is way too low though, maybe you could change that as it would make this so much better.

Background depth was way too simple too and , although the choir gave it a fantasy feel, you need more strings and background instruments to it as this would make the experience better for any listener who likes this kind of music.

I must admit taht the structure was a bi too random for my liking as a sllight bit of repetitiveness is always important to make the listener feel comfortable. Still its not abad job.

I couldn't exactly imagine this in a fantasy game, not yet anyway, if you add a background music melody to it, i'll play the game anytime, just to hear the music.

like I've mentioned before which i dont get why people are not harping on this I was required to use this pair choir and bassoon and I was also required to use this scale so please stop saying ad this and that the only thing on this review that could help me was the structure part

Doesn't sound like much is going on over here...

Until you turn the volume up...

I hadn't heard the melodies, not because they were non-existent, but because the volume was so low. Then, I turned the volume up and I heard really nice melodies. In short, you really need to increase the volume of this. The instruments were an interesting choice, and fit a lot with what you were going for. This sounds a lot like a soundtrack to some fantasy game.

The transitions were OK, nothing too special, but not bad. The structure wasn't that good since this did feel quite random. You should introduce a fixed chorus which plays a few times in the song. I quite liked the intro, but the ending was strange, since it felt as if it was unfinished.

Overall, it's a nice song, but what mainly put your score down was the volume of the song. Other than that, good job.

Very interesting sound to this! The choir gave it a very interesting sound and you are pretty good with music so the two together ended up in a pretty good result.

I would like to see the actual lyrics in this submission though. I think that's really the only way you could improve the submission at hand other then I also noticed a couple of volume issues. Sometimes the volume seemed good and at other times it sounded too quiet, etc...

Pretty good though.

I think it is being performed at the next recital so I will definitely have an actual recording soon. :) thank you for the review though

Nice

It reminds me of some of the music that accompanies Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, as some of those books were made into TV adaptations. It certainly seems like the sort of music that they used around the Hogfather's icy castle and the Tooth Fairy's castle (materials unknown).

Perhaps the sounds of the choir need to be raised slightly, as it would make it more chilling - sometimes, they seem quite conspicuous by their lower than anticipated tones.

I like the oboe accompanying the rest of the tune, though it could use more variation with the strings - possibly violas as well as violins.

sarias responds:

its just for bassoon and Vocal Soprano :) I have considered arranging it for orchestra though I think it would be more powerful if it was thanks for the review though

Cold...

Yeah, this sounds very cold. But what can you expect from a song that's called "Ice Queen's Palace", right?

I agree with SessileNomad, though. The song is a bit too quiet, there are parts where you can hardly hear the instruments, except for when you turn up your speakers of course. But normally my speakers are set to a volume level where I can hear everything else just fine, so I think your song needs to be a tad bit louder.

Aynway, the melodies sound pretty nice and as I've already stated, very cold. It just all needs to be a bit louder. :)
