"definetly hear potential in your tracks"
date: September 10, 2009
hello, i remember I reviewed one of your tracks a long ass time ago (Black Lioness or something- thank you memory of S3C;) ) and I've seen your stuff from time through IZK. I think you've improved a good amount since that forementioned long ass time ago, you can form pretty solid structured tracks, lay down fairly interesting beat patterns, and include some innovative ideas such as the abstract ambient backgrounds in here. The only thing that is really keeping you from reaching the next "level" per se is your lack of interesting and fresher sounds, and your melodic content in your tracks doesnt always flow the smoothest.
Good: Sweet FX on the drums, good usage of the dblue glitch plugin, the industrialish section in the intro was great, real nice arrangement of sounds that works quite well with the heavy phased background. THe way the drums move all over the map was a nice touch IMO.
Bad: The reese is basic, and has very little rhythmic function, (as its just straight whole notes) which is normally CRUCIAL since all the distortion and FX leaves the grittiness of the bass with lesser room to produce something melodical. It's nice that youre starting to let go of the cerbera saw preset; but the one here is pretty basic. maybe for a start, filter out of the some of the sound on both basses and layer sytrus one with your one. The reese could definitely use more automation of filter options and whatnot, too. But definitely, try to give this bad boy a rhythmic job.
The panning LFO on the background phase pad could be used a little less, as it got a bit distracting for me.
The melody....doesnt really fit with the song. maybe that was your intention with the atonal backdrop, but if you lowered the third note of the melody down just one note, I think it would mesh in with the track better. right now, i'm just not digging the happy/major feel here.
Layer teh amen break plz :(
i'd grab all the free vsts, and sounds that you can find, layer them together, tweak the knobs to see what they do, read the FL help files and other synth files to get a better understanding of how oscillators, filters, and volume envelopes work :) i'm sure you're doing some of that already. and learning some music theory wouldnt hurt either.
anyways, nice track here in development, sorry if my review came off as harsh. Keep it up!
