Author Comments

Hey people of Newgrounds, this is my first submission to the site. Hope it's worth your while (:

This is a myriad of firsts for me--first string piece, first time writing music using MIDI on Cubase, and first using Cubase in general.

And to be honest I have no real idea what I need to put here, so I'll just say thanks for visiting and any comments are very much appreciated. Have a nice day!

"Sounds enigmatic..."

This piece sounds enigmatic to me (in the good enigmatic way). Great effort and product!

"wow!"

date: July 28, 2009

while i'm not as much of a musical scholar as the reviewers below me, I do really like the song. I think the emotional aspect of the song is extremely apparent, and I feel like i move with the music. This seems like you took it straight out of a dramatic movie. like the ending of (i know it's cheesy) Batman. when you think about it, it really works. I can't really offer any criticism, because my ear isn't trained enough to pick out notes, and the different planes of strings, and all that scholar-y stuff. But this is an amazing piece nonetheless. favorited and downloaded, when i can.

"Disassociative"

date: July 22, 2009

This is interesting..The low strings especially seems to add to the somber mood that characterizes this piece. Another distinct quality I find in this piece is how the high strings seems to be almost on a separate plane from the rest of the music. I would prefer it to be louder than the lower strings so it can emerge more clearly, but I like how the line writing almost sounds separate from the rest of the strings.

Author's Response:

Thank you for your review; and the comment about the high strings! To be honest, I'd written out a vast majority of the other three parts before the high one, and so it appeared as something of an afterthought with regards to how it worked in with the other parts of the music. But I'm glad you noticed the seperation between them, I feel almost achieved that you think this is disassociative in a good way. I do wish I had made it a touch louder in places, but I think it serves its purpose well enough. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this, my thanks again.

"Interesting Title"

date: July 18, 2009

The sudden change to a major chord at :57 I found to be rather clever. You don't see a lot of that in typical AP songs.

This is lush and Romantic in scope and structure, which is always a plus to me. The strings compliment each other very well, and the harmonies are well-crafted. This is quite a feat, as rarely do you hear something this good.

At 2:17 the sudden movement was great, resolving in yet another unexpected major chord. That is rather good, as it keeps the listener captivated, and it shows off the technical skill of the composition in capturing the audience's attention.

This is quite a good work; you should be proud.

Author's Response:

I kind of liked the way the major chord sounded the first time, so I did resolve to use it again at 2:20 or so. And as much as I like minor pieces, I'm not sure I have the ability yet to pull one off without foraying into at least some major parts. It's something of an odd habit on my part, but as long as it works, I'll live with it. xD
Really appreciate you taking the time to write this, honestly. And rest assured, the response this has gotten has done much to make me proud of it. Thanks a lot for your review. (:

"lovely and tear-jerking"

date: July 17, 2009

This was...oh, God, I can't even begin to describe it. At the start, it has this wierd feel to it. I'm thinking The Godfather for some reason, mixed with Lord of the Rings, along with so many other amazing works. Honestly, what I just said doesn't even honor this...this...I can't even call it a masterpiece, it's so good. Sorry this review isn't as long or sophistocated as some of the other ones.

Author's Response:

Never be sorry about a 10/10 review, mate. xD
I'm really glad it made you feel something, I think that's what music's meant to do, after all.
And as for the comparisons...wouldn't say I'm anywhere near those masterpieces myself, but even to be compared is an amazing thing. Thank you so much for your review.
