I had a very clear picture in my mind while writing this piece.

I pictured a small clearing in a dense jungle, full of trees with dark green leaves. A fire burns near the center of the clearing despite the fact that it's raining lightly. The dense canopy of the trees manages to keep most of the water off the fire, but it's going to go out pretty soon.

It's not very easy to describe this sort of thing that brings me inspiration, but there you have it. Hopefully this inspires some image in you, and hopefully you'll write a review and let me know just what it is.

Thanks for listening.

EDIT 7/27/09: Updated the song to take some suggestions into account.
EDIT 7/31/09: Got rid of those annoying bells =p

I'm enjoying this. listening to some of your other pieces, I have to say I'm enjoying this one a lot and it seems like your music really matured over time. Mad props to ya as people don't usually mature their music and it just sits and wastes air.

Love the flute, dear god. Is it synth? The drums were great, along with the strings. The bells though did take away from it at the end. I didn't enjoy the sound of the high bells. They almost felt like they were cluttering up the sound.

Either way. I enjoyed it.

Author's Response:

Yup yup, the flute is synth. I spent a while with the e/q trying to get it to sound just right.

The bells...yeah, they don't sound the greatest coming to think of it =p The piece felt a little empty before them but the bells just don't seem to be working out. I'll just have to load it back into garageband.

Thanks for the great review!

I've listened to the msot recent half of your submissions, and this is a great improvement from your other stuff.

I'll start with the beef. I dislike the bell chimes at the end. I don't think they fit the song.
Also, the strings seem rather robotic. Perhaps changing the velocity of the notes in places to create a more human feel. A slightly shorter attack time might not go amiss as well.

The flute sounds excellent. Obviously not as good as the real deal, but for some reason I'm really digging it. The same with the percussion. It just fits nicely.

The mixing and mastering I can't really fault either. Well done.

Thanks for the review ^_^

Good catch on the strings...I didn't notice it before, but now that you mention it, they could use some variety. I will experiment with some stuff, and if worst comes to worst, I can always just re-record them entirely.

I'll also scrap the ending bell chimes.

And thanks for the good stuff at the end (lol) =] Great review.
