Hello again NG! I took a look at the constructive criticisms of the last few submissions and put it all to work. I got a new soundfont that I've been playing around with, I've spent the last week and a half toying with the Floops mixer, and doing sound balances to make sure I got it right this time. And barring any more hard drive failures, I aim to keep it going right.

So, here's the instrument rundown:

French Horn/Flugelhorn/Mellophon e: Flugelhorn JL's soundfont
Trombone: Squidfont Orchestral soundfont, staccato and legato samples
Tuba: Squidfont again, staccato and legato samples
Flute: Squidfont, staccato and legato
Clarinet: Squidfont, staccato and legato
Trumpet: Paris Trumpet soundfont (see Mega Man 8 Intro Stage mix for more!)
Alto and Tenor Saxophones: SGM 2.0 soundfont, alto and tenor sax samples
Baritone Saxophone: E-MU Reed Bari Sax soundfont (I think?)
Snare and Bass Drums: SGM 2.0 orchestra kit, Musica Theoria orchestral kit, Ken Ardency kit
Crash, China Cymbals, Triangle, Tambourine: SGM 2.0 orchestra and standard kits
Timpani: +World Orchestra soundfont, timpani samples
Vibraphone: SGM 2.0, vibraphones sample

So, enjoy! Reviews are appreciated, and don't forget to check my other work out if that suits your fancy.

You really should look around. Mine's not the first (though I might say something about the quality of mine versus the others... *ahem*), but I'm glad you took a listen. :D

"awesome"

date: July 2, 2009

Very nice, i enjoyed it quite a bit, although the horns did make it sounds a tiny little bit Midi-fied if you know what i mean.
I think you should work on it some more, change it around a little, make it sound more epic and then submit it to Ocremix.org remix workshop and see what the other mixers can offer help on, cause as far as i know there are no Jenova Absolute remixes there and id sure like to see(hear) a pro one.

10/10 for not sounding as drone-like as the other Absolute remixes here.

Author's Response:

Actually, since the creation of Voices of the Lifestream, every FFVII track has been ReMixed at least once -- and in the case of Jenova Absolute, it's a beautiful Danny Elfman-like orchestral arrangement (leaning more towards Elfman's Nightmare Before Christmas works).

I never intended on making this arrangement OCReMix-worthy. S-E-P-H-I-R-O-T-H!: Perfect, Soul Reaver Schism and Tools of the Ancients (FFVII, LoK: Soul Reaver, and FFVII respectively) will be getting that treatment (except that in the case of Tools of the Ancients, I was told outright that I would need new equipment to get the sound they're looking for in the Work-in-Progress forums -- and they weren't talking about FL Studio or Pro Tools).

I don't think the horns are the source of the .midi sounding problem; you may be hearing what should be saxophones. I can't ever find great sax soundfonts, so I have to settle for the crap that ends up in GM 'fonts.

Anyway, thanks for your review. :D

Author's Response:

Now that I'm getting better at "shaping the sound," as the pros call it, I'm going to start working on some arrangements that divert more from the original. We'll see what happens from here.

Thanks for your review. :D
