Okay, so this submission's just to let everyone on NG know that I'm not lazying off this summer. I'm hard at work on another arrangement (which means more FFVII, of course! :D), but I'm working on improving my ability to shape the sound-scape, and this is what this track's all about.

I worked to recreate the EP sound from the original (plus some subtle, swirly flanger), which is essentially a Rhodes EP sample with the attack pulled back. You can definitely hear the EQ work done on the Bass+Lead riff in the beginning of the loop.

Speaking of the Bass+Lead, the base sound came from one of two new soundfonts I've picked up since my hard drive crashed again (but this time I had everything backed up to an external, so I lost nothing). Those fonts are the Serrano D-50 Bass+Lead JS and the Paris Trumpet fonts. Rounding out the mix is the Rhodes EP from Musica Theoria v2.0, the Jazz kit and tenor sax from SGM 2.0, and the SC88 Fingered Bass.

So, without further ado, give it a listen and maybe a review. Also, if you know the name of the original track, I'd be glad to get it from you. That one's a stumper. :P

Thanks for your review. I love this track specifically because when I first played Mega Man 8, this track made the game for me. :D

Lovin' this mix! Always love to listen to Megaman remixes! =D

What I like about this is the panning of the background music. Love how it pans from left to right, back and forth. And I thought I was only that thought of that idea!

The soundfonts sound great! Really sound nice, and are very good to listen to.

I do find one problem however. I feel that the bass is too soft and barely able to be heard. It's not that the other instruments are completely overpowering the bass, but I find it hard to hear. A small problem though, so no worry!

Author's Response:

The bass comes in fine for me; then again, I have a mini-sub. :D I should use my headphones next time I do a mix-down. In actuality, though, the bass is low in the mix in the original, too.

Thanks for your review. :P

[EDIT:] After listening for a while, the bass sounds low in the mix because it's not a synth bass. Its frequency ranges from the low-mids to the mids, mostly, so it doesn't have the punchy low shelf that most basses in techno/house/electronica music have. That's one possibility, anyway. I can hear it just fine, but you might be trying to listening for a lot of low end that isn't there.
