There was a beats contest held over at www.free-loops.com to take a few beats from a hip hop sample cd and make a song out of them! Our very own sorohanro (www.sorohanro.newgrounds .com) entered and won first place!!

So I hope everybody will join me in my congratulations to him!

I entered as well and hit fourth place, for my first song using hip hop samples I found this a pleasent surprise. Though a bit of disappointment that I was only 0.2 from third! Oh well, I guess I should have spent more effort on my entry!

Anyways this is it, the samples at the beginning (synthy stabby thing) and any and all percussion save the timpani thrown in there on and off are using samples from the contest.

Funkilicious.

!!THE STORY BEHIND IT!!
Since I knew I couldn't get super serious with my noobish hip hop skills I decided to take it easier and try something a bit more funnies with my vein of music. I made a song about the most epic getting ready for school song evar. I imagined a guy getting up (the synth at the beginning is the alarm clock). You can see his putting on his shirt in slow mo if you listen closely enough ;D!

this makes me think of the tau from WH40k, because of the the overall tech feeling of it, and it may just be my imagination, but i sense some easteren (is that how you spell it?) influence in there.

This could be used for something. Just .2 more and a cute little ribbon would be yours. One issue is that you can't really make a hip-hop song out of it. It would be hard for any vocalist to bypass the dominant lead synths, whereas Sorohanro's entry (I knew I heard it somewhere--I downloaded it!) is far more versatile and contains smattering of live instrument (trumpet).

The end on this one is flaky; t'would be better for you to have looped this one.

Author's Response:

yup. All true. Like I said, I had never made a beat before, so I didn't even try. I just took the beats, sliced em up, threw em on a solo cello, had a few luls and called it a day. I suddenly ran out of ideas near the end which is why I ended it that way.

I know I don't deserve to win, I was really surprised it got as far as it did.

Good advice, I was aware, but thanks for being honest enough to bring them up. And again for the review!

Definatley not your best, but stil very good nonetheless. Love the use of Electronic sounds: you should try that a little more often. Sounds great!

Author's Response:

haha, definitely. Not one of my best by a long shot, but I did like the electronic sounds as well, was a fun project to undertake, thought I might as well show it to anybody who would want to hear it!

Thanks for the review, glad you liked it!

reminds me of an old sonic song :S good job but i think there was a little lack of melody (but then again that probably wasnt your choice) since it was about loops
