I decided SoulChaos (my first AP submission) wasn't nearly as good as it could have been, so I remixed it and this is the result. Differences:

1) The drums have been changed drastically; now they aren't so random and distracting
2) The background synth isn't so loud and in the way
3) Fixed the form, before it was too disorganized
4) Changed volume levels, they're just right now I think
5) Lowered some tracks an octave; the higher pitches were screechy and annoying at times
6) Edited to make it overall less muddy and crowded

EDIT V3A, 2-28-09:
7) Re-mixed (raised up the drums) and gave it a little mastering.

EDIT V4, 3-7-09:
8) Changed the drums' levels again, made them softer in certain parts rather than louder all the way through
9) Fixed a few stray incorrect notes that were bugging me.

The original version was part of my SoulTunes series. I actually wrote it intending to use it in a video game i was writing. The game got canceled but I still liked the song, so I decided to upload it separately.

My goal right now is to get better. So I need a lot of comments/criticism, whatever you want to say go ahead and write it out cuz I want to hear it. ^_^ Enjoy.

"Really..."

I can't stop thinking of Final Fantasy in the back of my mind lol. It just seems like the synth is playing this big role in the music telling its story.

Only thing I have to say I don't really likeis the drums. They almost just need to be muffled just a tad. They just sound to prominent if you know what I mean.

Good stuff dude, again 5/5, 10/10

Author's Response:

Heh, you should've heard the drums before I remixed this thing ;) lol but yeah, I couldn't seem to find a good mix for the drum track, I'll give it another go and see what happens. Perhaps muffling them a bit is all I'll need.

Thanks!

"I know what you did last summer"

date: February 28, 2009

Yeah, I know what this guy did last summer, he played loads of Final Fantasy games. I'm sure of it.

Well, it certainly sounds like it has a Nobuo Uematsu influence anyway, especially as it resorts to midi style sounds throughout. The rings of FM synthesis are very apparent on this tune.

The arrangement isn't bad, and melodically it's a good tune. You obviously know how to piece things together to produce a well rounded movement, however the mixing still isn't quite there. The drums are really too quiet throughout and fail to compliment the rest of the tune, yet those lead parts do tend to jump at you.

I really think you should bring those drums up in the mix somewhat and only drop the melodic part of the tune if it starts to clip. Feel free to message me if you need help with this.

Otherwise it's a creative tune and I'm interested in hearing more from this artist.

This is a very nice review, I appreciate it greatly. We need more people like you here on newgrounds instead of the average "OMG it [ROX/SUX]" type stuff. ^_^ I hope you don't mind, I'm gonna PM you real quick for a little clarification on some stuff.
