The Adventures of Merrick Kuei Original Soundtrack Mock-up.

Here is the soundtrack version of my MAC9 submission "Night Before the Battle". Because of the rather lovey-dopey theme of the valentines contest, the martial undertones were dropped and a piano part was added, resulting in the 1:40 version at http://www.newgrounds.com /audio/listen/201932 . Although it's not the first track in my "Adventures of Merrick Kuei" fake soundtrack, it's the shortest one, therefore the first to be released. It's actually closer to the version that I had intended to enter into the Valentines contest. Expect an edit to this soon. Although I consider this song good enough as is to submit, I also still consider it a "work in progress". I might just add the coda from the MAC9 version in score form.

UPDATE 02-26-2009 High quality version posted. The equalization, reverb, and sustain have been tweaked, and I'm currently working on the second part of this song.

UPDATE 06-22-2009 WIP version uploaded. 40 secs added. It adds to the sadness of the song. Parting is such a sorrow, especially when you may not see your loved ones again... Read the story accompanying this song in the Mac9 version.

ENJOY!

"Beautiful"

2 in 1 review cause I'm lazy :P

I really like this series of yours, but my fav is definitely this and the previous version. Both have well-chosen instruments and beautiful melodies. The piano in the other one is especially sweet, and you did amazing work with the brass, woodwinds and that plucked string instrument (can't really make out what it is) in this one. In fact both are perfect the way they are. Splendid examples of how a simple and quiet song can still manage to be grand and epic.

This version sounds a lot like Guild Wars music, by the way. Excellent job on both.

Author's Response:

The plucked instrument is actually a Flamenco guitar. Used in a context separate from it's intended usage, any instrument may be made to sound ambiguously ethnic.

it has a dark aura but still with a small white dot in the middle, the one you try to reach in a universe of sorrow :) (thats what i feel with this song)

I like how unsoundtrack and epic yours are -they are more contemplative, more lord of the ringsish - its a nice change from all the "epic" soundtracks everyone on classical makes on this site :)

good job!

That F Horn part at the end just told me "Stargate". Loved it overall. The guitar is very nice, and sounds quite good sample wise.

Hey! Thanx for stopping by and leaving a review. :D A lot of my friends have associated that horn with Stargate. It's those 5 sec interludes they have before the commercials that doe sit, that lonely french horn works magic for recognition.
