This was the first composition duel that me and Mandi have waged. The idea is to take a certain number of criteria, and compose for one hour with those parameters. In this particular case the criteria is as follows.

- Focusing on earthly low sounds, cello.
- Ab major key

This duel wasn't really fair because Mandi has to use free soundfonts as she doesn't have my samples (when we work on a project all songs are rendered through my sample set), and we hadn't yet thought of that. From this point forward it was agreed that we'd both use a freeware soundfont to put each other on even playing fields.

Her part is as usual, brighter, more upbeat and fun. My half holds more tints of sorrow and struggle. The main theme that plays again and again in my half is somewhat of a secret for a project we're both designing. I just took the opportunity to expand it. (there is a render issue at the end, not very detrimental to listening but just so people aren't confused)

EDIT:
I have come to realize that the last half, err... MY half, sounds exactly like the theme from Pan's Labyrinth. This is entirely my mistake and at the time I was so sure it was a theme for a character me and Mandi were designing. So... enjoy my unintentional Pan's Labyrinth remix!

Author's Response:

haha, thanks for your honest vote Lamazar :D! Yeah her cheery half won me over myself, I agree with you. Despite my unfair advantage of high quality synths, she totally owned me.

Thanks for the review, i'm glad you liked it!

Both of you did a great job, I like how each of you cover the two sides of emotion. Together you two are amazing! The second piece has some Pan's labyrinth in it, but that's cool. It sounds great!
P.S. what free soundfont are you using?

Author's Response:

the soundfont we're using is called 27mbsymphony if i'm not mistaken. I will provide a link to it if I find it again in future duel releases.

Mandi!

All due respect Maestro; the enchanted and cheery feeling Mandi's piece gives the listener (yay, that's me!) is enough to crack your epicness, for now. Now to listen to the second and third battle!

I do have one question though: When you and Mandi become international superstars, will this awesome collection of music disappear and go copyright D:?

March 1, 2009

Author's Response:

haha, I hear ya Duggins. It's what makes us a great team I think. Her enchanted and cheery vibes goes up well against my epic flair, in this case, better!

I honestly don't know. I don't see why it shouldn't stay here if we do become famous or something. I mean if I remake one of these or something the original can still be around.
