Author Comments

Since my sequencing of Amaranth was so well-received, I decided that I'd continue the series and sequence another track off "Dark Passion Play". This time, it's my personal favorite song off the entire album, "Last of the Wilds". A lot of work went into this sequence, so everyone enjoys it! If it goes over well, I might continue with these.

Lastly, as usual, *please* leave a review if you rate the song. A lot of work goes into this stuff, and it's not fair to the artists who contribute their work with the public for free on the audio portal when people simply vote zero without any sort of explanation. Remember, we make this stuff for you guys, the community!

Thanks!

"Well-executed"

date: June 23, 2009

Considering the folk influence in Last of the Wilds and the use of wind instruments, I would have thought this would sound really muddled and overly complex. However, it was a pretty well-executed remix. My only complaint, like others, is that the intro is too sudden. Although I cannot imagine how one would replicate the actual pipe intro, there should be a point like the original in which only a few sounds are playing in the beginning. Since all of it is introduced at once, the song doesn't build on itself, and does get stale after a while. But I'm nitpicking. On the positive side, I really like the percussion, and though I normally hate fade-outs (I feel they're anti-climactic), I really like how it sounds at the end of this song. The song is great, and is definitely worth a listen. Great job!

"Well done"

This would make a pretty good level BGM on an old NES era game. Considering that's probably what you went for, I'd say it's great.

"Not that good"

The real one is MUCH better!

Author's Response:

I agree, the original is *much* better indeed, I don't think I did a horrible job re-sequencing it; after all, the goal isn't to recreate the original exactly, it's to translate it into a different form.

"hmm"

One of my favorite genres is 8-bit, so I figured I would review this. First of all the intro was quite sudden. After that, everything just jumps out at you. There were no introduced sounds and it all sounded kind of bland. I liked it, I just didn't like your execution. I really think you should try again with a new song with 8-bit style but try and add more style to it.
(Sorry I couldn't be of any more help than that)

Author's Response:

Actually, that's exactly the kind of review I was hoping for. The original version of the song started almost exactly as you had described it should have, but I was afraid that unless I introduced a lot of the tertiary voices and harmonies right off the bat people would be uninterested and simply zero-bomb.

I'll take your advice to heart for my next sequence should I decide to make one. Thanks again for one of the few actually constructive reviews I've ever gotten =).

Cheers,

~NA
