"Intense...Well Kinda..."
date: January 24, 2009
The intro was awesome. Then it got kinda soft and slow.
I really don't like the section starting around the 1:00 mark. But the riff that starts around the 1:15ish mark and goes for like 3-4 measures was cool.
I like the section starting around the 1:40ish mark a lot more. Has some nice harmonies in it. And when it expands around the 2:20ish mark, it has a nice feel to it.
I hate the straight strumming beginning around the 2:40ish mark. Really unoriginal there, cause straight strums are for rock, not metal so much. At least in this style. The ending was pretty cool though.
Now down to the nitty gritty and technicalities of the song. The distortion is cool sounding, but really weak on its own. You need a bass to fill in the lows, because the guitars are so high pitched gain wise that is.
Also, compress the kick a bit. It sounds rather puny in the mix. And a weak kick is about the worst thing you can have for metal.
When it comes to the riffs themselves, I think you could make them a lot more technical. Your intro was so promising, then you didn't do anything all that hard after you started the song itself. A real letdown. Do some of the sections in double time to get that thrashy sound you had in the intro.
Overall a nifty song. But it is transparent musically. No bass and a weak drum sound. Plus the guitars don't have much of a bottom end. So there really isn't any bottom end in this at all. So I'll give you a 3/5 and 5/10. Cause it is good, but not that good. A lot of work still to be done.
Good luck with this, and I am excited to hear the final product.
