A disco-like weird thing about an insect... Taken literally it's : "I'm surrounded by the grasshopper"

Not A grasshopper... THE grasshopper... And it's a she... and she drinks... beer...

This solo work, features vocals by me and Kalia, my band's former singer.

Enjoy!

Author's Response:

It's all about an "idee fixe", a fixation of sorts. Next time I get one of those for a song, it won't be for a grasshopper, it'll be for lasagna! And before you know it, I'll be fat...

Cheers!!!

"Pretty good..."

by: Zouk
date: April 28, 2009

This song sounds like some of the 80s and R&B remixes. By creating it into dance, it's pretty cool. I love it. Cheers :)

"Quite enthralling"

by: Coop83

A nice piece, that's quite an intense experience - I can certainly see what you're getting at with regards to the way that the music envelops you within the tune and is quite an intense feeling for the whole performance.

I think that you might have considered giving us a bit of a bass solo to bring us back in from the amazing synth riff that you gave us towards the end of the piece. I can't really think of any other way to improve it, as the whole thing was a very well organised tune.

Thanks again for another great review! Hmmm... A bass solo... Well, that's definitely something I haven't tried yet. Come to think of it, even in things I haven't written myself. I've never been involved in any project with a bass solo. That's a good idea to ask the band to start thinking about it and we 'll see how it pans out (in new songs), trying not to make it sound too Mannowar-ish...

"Daft Punk-ish"

date: February 4, 2009

Those robot voices really remind me of Daft Punk. Also, the funky intro seems to be heavily influenced by them.

Anyway, I like this song, it creates a happy atmosphere and sounds pretty unconventional. Sometimes it reminds me of some of the 90s dance tracks, the next second I recognize some 70s rock influence there (you know, those long-winded guitar and keyboard soli à la Deep Purple).

However, the main beat of the song stays almost the same nearly through the whole song. This gets boring after about 3 minutes.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review! You're right about the beat. Nothing does really change throughout the song, but you wouldn't have noticed it if everything else stayed the same throughout the song, as you would see in not so few dance tunes... ;-)
Anyways, I really should have programmed more drums into this, but at the time, I wasn't too proficient with writing realistic drum parts back then and to be totally honest, I didn't even have the patience to do it. You know, as a listener I'm not into beat oriented music, but I do appreciate some bands here and there, like Daft Punk, the Chemical Brothers etc, that put effort and artistic value into what they make, so if I'm influenced by anyone, it would be by them... And you're right about the rock part. But you didn't spot Vanessa Mae influence in the second part of the song... Hehe... This was really a blend of everything....
Cheers!

"Hmm.."

by: Fro
date: January 25, 2009

Personally this wasn't something that I liked too much, but it still wasn't that bad in terms of quality. The keyboard sounded pretty good and everything, but I do think there are a couple of things you could have improved on a little.

After awhile the song gets quite repetitive and (not to sound rude) almost gets annoying to a point. I think if you would have added a little bit more variety in certain parts of the song that it would have made it a little better.

I also think that you should have used more vocals in this song. A couple of things you could have done with this is add vocals with different vocals or just use the vocals that you had a little sooner and more often, without making it too often.

Overall - Not too bad, but perhaps a couple of things could have been fixed on it.

Thanks for the review! You know, this was maybe the last thing I ever did unplanned (this is five years old). It's more fun for me than for you, that's granted. But you can't imagine the pleasure of asking : "Now, what will I do for the next 10 seconds of music?". And feel free to do whatever you like! Oh! The freedom!!!! Nowadays, I stick to structures and plan virtually everything for my band duties, but at some point, I hope I'll let myself loose again...
