"Great but needs a little improvement"

date: September 30, 2009

That was pretty good. I do have a little constructive criticism, though, so bear with me:

1. The singing kind of detracted from the overall calmingness of the song. It just seemed a little too rough. It also sounded as if there was some kind of distortion on the mic. But either way, I would just loosen up your throat to get that calming melody.

2. The singing was also a little quieter than the rest of the song, especially during the chorus. Just watch that next time.

Overall, I really liked what you did. You added a kind of metal theme to it, which made it worth hearing again. Whoever was on the guitar (I'm guessing you) did a great job, adding their own little spin to the song. The solo was especially enjoyable, because, like any Pink Floyd song, it is one of the most important parts. Great job, and keep it up.

Author's Response:

Frankly, I'm surprised you would even give constructive criticism. Most people on NG offer nothing in their reviews -- either glowing, empty praise or fierce jackassery with no basis.

In any case, the vocals are a weak part of this recording. We actually put together a better recording, but we weren't ever able to upload it onto NG. Frankly, that alone has stopped us from fixing the problems with this track.

We're glad you dig the solo, though. My brother actually did most of the instruments (guitars, bass and all vocals), so he deserves the credit for it. It's not like I did nothing, though -- I recorded the drums and keyboard parts.

We really should do this one again. My brother just got a new amp (a Krank Revolution-1) and I've been getting better with both recording and mixing drums. I'm certainly never adding reverb to the drum track, again -- that's a major minus on this recording and it needs to be fixed.

Since I just got the green light from my brother, however, work will restart on this little gem of ours. The recording will probably be up tomorrow.

Thanks,

That Drumset doesnt sound lik an X7 if something is over equalized it can make a mess out of things, run it through fl studio and use parametric EQ2 its really usefull

Author's Response:

Actually, what happened was that we applied reverb. BIG MISTAKE. But we rolled it back and it sounds much better. Expect a redo soon.

Thanks for your review.

P.S.: How about critiquing the strings, EP and bass?

"EWWW"

date: January 14, 2009

Ewww why would you ruin this song? The voice is horrible

January 17, 2009

Author's Response:

...Not everyone is Roger Waters and David Gilmour. Get over it.

And again, there's more to the song than just the singing and the guitar solo. How about reviewing the REST of the song?

I'm politically obligated to thank you for your "review".

"Great Cover"

date: December 30, 2008

First of all, great cover. In a cover, i look for: similar vocals and VERY similar solo with artistic creativity of course. In this solo, i guess there's just no way to make a LP sound like a Strat. However, to help you along, it's well known that David uses a Big Muff pedal, a MXR Phase 90, an Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress, an Orange Treble/Bass Booster, and an Arbiter Fuzz Face. You don't really need the Booster, but i do recomment the Big Muff pedal and the Electric Mistress.

Author's Response:

You know, there's more to the song than just David Gilmour's guitar solo. Just sayin'. :D
