I did this some time ago. I know my brutal-ish vocals aren't great, at least I'm happy with how the solo turned out...

"Pretty Good"

date: October 21, 2009

Pretty good, great guitar part, however, it depends on what you were trying to do with your 'brutal' vocals, if you were trying for Hetfeild-type thrash, then you did it right, however, it sounded like you were trying to go for the more death metal-type vocals, which isn't what you made, and if you weren't going for the death vocals, try singing faster, because long notes don't really work for thrash/punk vocals. All in all, though, great song.

Author's Response:

I'm not entirely sure what I was going for. Unfortunately, even though I've heard of a lot of different techniques for any of the kinds of distorted vocals, I can't actually implement any of them. At some point, I will probably go for it, but for the moment I'm more concerned with my production and keyboard musical endeavors, rather than singing. Thanks for review! I'm glad you liked it!

Pretty cool metal track and i think your voice suited the music perfectly and i agree with the guy below it does have a very hetfield sound to it which is cool :D

however i think you have some sort of reverb or something on the voice or some effect? it is annoying a little bit just clean vocals wouldve been much cooler

Author's Response:

Oh, trust me, it needed all the distortion, echo and reverb I could lay to the vocal track in order for it to work in some way. There was another reason for that, apart from my lack of brutal singing skills. for this, I was using a dynamic mic, cause the whole project was somewhat hasted and mostly for fun.

If you notice, I didn't even ask the guitarist to double-track his part. It's the most mono sounding thing I've ever done... Nor did I Eq too much. And I didn't even master it! I think I only had a maximizer on the output... The recordings were done in 20', right after a more serious 5 hour recording session for another song (not actually posted on NG). It's all fun fun fun!!!

I love it. This song should be recommended to the Harley Davidson motor team as it really resembles what the team represents. Good for their website too. Dude, you are good. Way to go. Cheers :)

Author's Response:

Thanks mate! I'm glad you like it. Oh, and I do have an unfinished Motorhead type of song as well, which is more Harley Davidson style... If I get around completing it, I'll post it as well! Cheers!

"where to start"

I enjoy a wide variety of music.
Now as far the signing and how brutal it is, at some points I think the singing fit well with the song. I can tell what your range is, and I believe tahtif you had yelled at top power at the right parts it would really add to this. The music and instruments really worked well together.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review! I could have tried singing higher, but I was afraid that my vocal chords would just pop out of my mouth and sue me. I don't have the right technique for brutal vocals, that's why this was really hard on my throat.
I wish I had at least double-tracked the guitars but at the time I didn't take this project too seriously, as I was recording other stuff at the same time. Well, maybe next time I try something similar, I'll take it all the way.
