[quote from wikipedia] Nyctophobia is a limiting and disabling disease characterized by a frenzied fear of the darkness. It is triggered by the mind's disfigured perceptivity of what would or could happen when in a dark environment. Despite its pervasive nature, there is a lack of etiological studies on it. The fear of darkness (nyctophobia) is a psychologically-impacted feeling of being disposition from a state of comfort to a frightening fear-evoking state. [ end quote ]

The story I imagined revolves around a man who's life was completely changed by a trauamtic event from his childhood which left him with a crippling fear of darkness ( nyctophobia ). He tried therapy, but nothing seemd to cure him. Every night, returning from work, walking down deserted streets in the maze of the big dark city, he experiences terrible emotions, and frightning images barely glimpsed in the corner of his eye. His heart beats faster and faster, he starts shivering even though it's not even cold, he feels like he's about to explode. Footsteps in the dark, not his own. A loud shriek from far ahead fills the air. His eyes widen. He races home through the dark, as the world around him breaks into thousands of pieces. He safely arrives to his appartement, turns on the light with frantic gestures, locks the door behind him, and kneels on the floor, trying to catch his breath. Tonight he survived, but what about tomorrow night ?

Don't be afraid of the dark... be afraid of what's in it...

Dark!

I've listened to some of your other songs and really like your unique and mostly dark style.
This song is truely amazing and the story of this piece sounds very good.
It would be a really good idea for a non-flash short film or maybe the opening credits of a game.
Thanks for sharing this to us!

Very Atmospheric

This song creates a strong visual image. My main complaint is that some of the choir & strings sounds a bit too "Synthy".

popraz responds:

Thank you ! I've done better with the choir and strings, though synths can never replace the real thing..

This is awesome!

I like the atmosphere you've created with your notes, but I always listen to the track before I read the notes, unless the notes say READ THIS FIRST lol, anyway I got the feeling of opening/ending credits, or final scene for a war movie. The first suggestion, opening/closing credits I think explains itself, but to be more specific about the second, final scene, when I hear this I think of WW 2, and all of the monuments and military gravesites related to WW2 that i've visited. This track playing over shots of different monuments, battlefields, and graves would be perfect to me. This is really a great piece!
