This song is an entry to the current MAC8, October "Flight in Freedom" theme. To be more specific, the theme was a picture. A picture of a purdy plane flying into the sunset. How romantic. I hadn't had any ideas or solid beginnings on a song for the competition until today, when inspiration came of its own accord when I wasn't really preoccupying myself with it. I loaded up FL, chucked in FL keys, gave it a dull tone, chucked a delay and reverb on the master track, opened up 3xOsc and made a soft synth out of it. Played around with some rhythms, added some light percussion, added some preset instruments and pads, and built the song up into a slow and calm ambient song which (hopefully) resembles the plane soaring through the clouds, with the clouds ahead tinged with oranges and purples from the sunset. I'm quite pleased with the result and I hope you enjoy it too.

Also, the title of the song was taken from a John Marsden novel with the same name, just in case you were wondering...

it has a great build to it that really portrays the feeling in this song, the drums add a lot of emotion to this piece, it doesn't have much of a climax and it doesn't need one in my opinion, not much else to say really, excellent work

Hey, thanks for the review. Maybe a climax would have worked, like, a really soft one, but I think the slow, calm plugging along can work just as fine. Cheers. =D

Let's see, then.

I agree with what other reviewers said. It sounds more like "floating" instead of "flight", which isn't a bad thing, mind you. Floating is more relaxing, more ambient.

I could swear that if i close my eyes, i would bee floating in sky with full of bright colors. No, i'm not on drugs (i'm on insomnia, that's it).

Well, i don't have much to say, not even a piece of advice. Good work, and best of luck for the MAC !

"Circle of floating" would be a better title, I guess. The track seems to be a bit too slow to resemble "flight".

Anyway, the track is very nice. I like how the instruments work together. The piano creates a very light atmosphere while the synth sounds create the image of floating before the inner eye.

Completed is the track by the drums. They fit perfectly together with the piano and the synth.

Only downside is that there seems to be no real climax in this song. But on the other hand, this is labled as "ambient" and maybe it just doesn't need a climax at all...

Author's Response:

Thanks man. Yeah, as I mentioned in another response, the tempo is slower to represent the openness and the seemingly slow feeling of flight, as my interpretation, of course. Thanks for the compliments, I'm really glad you like it.

"Well played"

A very nice sounding piece, full of a background sense of trepidation and a wonderful sense of being and living for the moment in the foreground.

I love the synth that you put as the main counter melody - it worked really well. The melody was good, which gives the impression of walking in the air, rather than flying - flight would feel a little faster and probably a little more powerful for me.

I think that the start of it is symbolic of the adrenaline rush and perhaps a fear of the unknown, before it drains away towards exaltation and the flight itself. Marvellous.

Author's Response:

Thank you. Yeah, realistically, flight is fast, but flight gives me the impression of floating in air, quite slow, the horizon is much farther away, and it takes longer to get there. That and travelling through endless amounts of the same scenery, that's why I chose for a slower, more soothing piece.
Thanks for the review. :D

Well, I must admit, this is a great song. The drums were done real well along with the tune. I think you had the drums do the build up too many times though. I think twice is a good amount. Overall, excellent song and downloaded.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review! Yeah, I just had that snare build up on loop. Probably not the best choice I made for the song, but I do really like the effect of the build up on its own. Maybe I was hoping it wasn't going to be too noticeable. Thanks. :D
