Your son is a lucky kid. He has a mother that loves him AND writes him songs to say that! This does have the soft, endearing feel that you were going for, along with a nice electronic undertone. It reminds me of a romantic scene in a good science fiction movie.

Childhood... :]
This reminds me of the good old days, of being about 5 years old, not worrying about the troubles of the world, politics, my future, marriage, etc. Just living life to the fullest, it actually made me shed a tear. :']
I LOVE THE LEAD. The pads in the background add nice depth too. The snare is almost march style, but it is breakbeat, which is wicked.
I will admit, the key change as well as chord progression at 2:08 was sudden, although you did have the transitional white noise. It's still nice, but perhaps if you kept the same chord progression going on, but still did the same laying, I think I'd sound better. :]
