NOTE: Just a quick heads up! You may have to turn up the volume a bit on this one. It is a bit on the quiet side (Unless my speakers are simply terrible and/or broken).

Before someone inevitably asks, the answer is no; this is not Naruto. It isn't related to the song "Sadness and Sorrow" on Naruto, nor did I even watch the anime at the time I wrote this. That is a great song, but this is completely unrelated aside from the coincidental sharing of titles. :P

Now that we've got that out of the way, on to the actual commentary. I wrote this piece long ago, and I've come a long way musically since then. However, I have received several requests to remake this song. I've added a VERY simple intro, a nicer piano soundfont, some strings, and I've tweaked the volume in a few spots. I think it sounds a lot better, but you can compare if you'd like.

Anyhow, I look forward to your comments! I would love to know your opinion, how I might improve this, or even what you imagine as you listen to this music. I read and respond to every review, so don't shy away! XD

Thanks in advance, and enjoy. :)
~Blaze

PS. I really need a decent strings sample for free. I have been using the string soundfont that comes with the FL Studio demo, but I can't stand it anymore. Know of any good samples for free?

Again?

Again I am left speechless, by you.. BlazingDragon (aka Blaze). I have faroited most of your songs or at least half.

BlazingDragon responds:

This one especially means a lot to me. I wrote the original a very long time ago and the track means a lot. It is very simplistic and yet one of my better pieces (IMO).

Thanks,
~Blaze

Wow.

Love the piano work.

Seriously. That added to the very, very, quiet and atmospheric strings, makes this piece captivating.

It may be simple. But it's powerful nonetheless. Honestly- I don't know what to say about this one.

A McAwesomeBurger for you, perhaps?

BlazingDragon responds:

I'm a bit worried this won't do well in MAC8 due to the simplicity (And the fact that Winterwind-NS, Simon-F, JoshHunsaker, SmartPoetic, and others are submitting!). Your review is very reassuring however. I like to think that I packed all mmy emotions into this one, despite it's simplistic form. I just hope that's enough.

It is great to recieve a review from a good musician here. I really enjoy some of your music!

Thanks for the review,

Ok ok OK... >:(

Why is it that every... SINGLE... SONG in the whole contest sounds like this? Ok, dont gte me wrong. I am loving all these songs. They sound great and peacful. However, none of them have any origanility in them besidesn the fact that they are all created. Yes I know, you worked very hard with this song.. but you got to make it sound.. different than the rest! DO you know how hard it is to judge 100+ songs that sound exactly alike?

I loved the song itself though. Very sad.. in fact I think THIS ONE has a better chance of winning than the rest of them. How? Mybe by strictly luck. I may never know.

BlazingDragon responds:

I believe the answer to that question lies in the expressiveness of the piano itself. It truly has an incredible range in both register and dynamics, allowing it to communicate such a wide breadth of emotions. The ability to combine both melody and harmony simultaneously alone makes it a great option for sad songs. As to why I myself chose it? I'm a pianist and stink at orchestration. :P

I've looked through quite a few of the submissions, actually. I wouldn't say they all sound alike, either. While there may be quite a few solo piano pieces, they are still distinct in the utilized dynamics, registers, tempo, rhythyms, harmonies, chord progressions, and melodies. While this does sound similar in the fact that it is sad, I wouldn't go so far as to say it sounds the same as every other song. I tried to make it original with the way I combined the traits I listed a moment ago. The fact that many submissions are piano solos does not make them all "sound like this". Within the piano, there is an infinite number of ways to create distinctive sounds, styles, and harmonies. Compare a Bach fugue to David Lanz's new age piano solos. There is a very noticable difference setting them apart, though they both be piano songs and sometimes both "sad". I personally wouldn't mind judging dozens of piano solos so long as there is some degree of variation in style. Judging a hundred different songs with the same chord progression in, say, the nocturne form? That may become too monotonous for me. However, I will respect your opinions. After all, I guess your not attacking me or anything. :P This is just my opinion on the matter.

Whatever the case may be, I am glad that you enjoyed the song. I am quite relieved to hear that this may have a decent chance of winning, whether it be luck or not.

Thank you for the review,
~Blaze

Great piece

I cry again.. This is not good for me... I love it though. The pictures it brings to mind for me is the human life in general. We are born into hopeless sin. (I am a christian and hope that what I speak about does not offend you or anyone else) We live, we die, but one man paid the untimate price. The picture your music paints for me is the picture of Him hanging on the cross. I am amazed over and over with your talent for creating such music. My great grandma comes to mind as well. She was a good christian woman who never ceased to amaze me. I picture myself visiting her grave with the lovelest flowers as a gift for her. Standing over her grave marker speaking about the times we had when I was younger. I remember everything about her, how she would read to me, how I would sleep on the couch in her room and get up in the middle of the night and crawl in bed with her. (I inevitably have to stop typing to whipe the tears away. ) At the very end, I picture myself bending down and placing the flowers on her grave as the wind blow through my hair, then looking up at the sky knowing she is in a better place.

BlazingDragon responds:

What is wrong with crying? I truly believe it is a strength to be able to admittedly cry due to beauty.

I am a Christian as well and am not offended in the least. I find it very inspiring that you write such things rather than submitting to politcal-correctness. Being politacally correct is rediculous. (Forget "Happy Holidays", I'll say "Merry Christmas" if I feel like it! Whether the person decides to have a merry Christmas or celebrate it is their choice. I'm simply spreading the joy! :D) But I digress...I never would have imagined this music describing the death of Jesus. That is a profound image indeed. Your grandmother also sounds like a wonderful women; you are blessed to have known her. I'm sure she is in a better place by the way you described her. :)

Thank you...Your review has touched me.
