Ouch! 11/13 and not a single bit of helpful criticism from any of the judges...
I guess I got lucky alright, I could have come in dead last...

"omg"

date: August 26, 2008

omfg I love the drums that kick in around 0:41 and that little beat right there until 0:51. That beat along with the ambience behind it hit the spot for me. I want to hear a song based around that section!!
That's my favorite section of this piece by far.

Thanks again!

I may take your advice and pull that section out as the basis for a new track. Is it the combination of basic kick+snare combined with the congas/bongos that's doing it for you?

:D

smooth and professional. I love the rythmic progression. You seem to have a real knack for beats. "Syncopata Ritada" is further proof of that.
I gave you 7/10, although, compared with what you regularly find on this site, this is probably worth 11/10. So why the 7 ? Just to see if next time you can push the boundaries some more :D. btw you should come back to this piece and make it longer. Work on it. Polish it in some ways.
The beauty of perfection is that you can always work on it because you'll never quite reach it. But sometimes you can come pretty damn close ;).

Author's Response:

Thanks fredwise,
The 7 is fine by me man - it's damn near an 8 which is a lot closer to a 10 than a 2 is... :D

I know it seems short but that was more about the time constraints involved with a contest (putting music to video) than anything else.

I rarely ever go back and rework anything but who knows? Next time I decide to mess around, I may open the project back up and see what else I can do with it.

Again, thanks - I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment!

"eh up mush"

date: June 8, 2008

thought id bob by and see whats the track. Just my luck i wander on to a little gem of a track. This track has a wonderfully sinister vibe to it, dark, broody and moody yet it retains some euphoric elements, mainly the chordal synth that goes up in semitones. the kick is really good, has a slightly driven edge to it. the snare is a tad week in comparison though, need something closer, hard, with a bit of verb, but thats a personal decision. How do you get that vocal as well, sounds like a child flanged to the max and metalised.

those bongo sounds filling the bg are ace, its a nice touch that adds alot to the track. The bassy synth is dirty as sin, it makes me want to wash haha. Really suits the mood.

Overall for what is essentially a quite simple arrangement it works astonishingly well, I have had the track on loop now for a good 30 mins, it would fit well into a moive or game due to it's looping if abstract nature. The production is flawless too, excellently mixed, the only gripe as ive mentioned is that snare. So to summarise, an awesome tune, nice to hear something new from you and keep the shizzle on me jizzle with the whizzle and the bizzle innit.

Hey PBJ!

Thanks for the write-up. This track was a last minute MAC submission. If you haven't yet seen the topic(s) they're here:

We'll see what happens. According to the rules, 1st through 3rd get a splash of cash which is always cool. 4th and 5th get shirts and stickers - but I already have a few shirts so I was really hoping for some of that cruel cruel mockery that's set aside for 6th - 10th. :D

Next time around, I'll morph the snare - start out with whatever and over time bring up the reverb and make it a little punchier via some nifty eq work. That might work out well.

Thanks for inspiring me with an idea or two!

Take it eask PBJ,
