Remixing/re-arranging a song is a great way to improve your skills with composing software and the composing process itself. A lot of people find it very hard to create a complete song on their own, but can be very successful in coming up with terrific arrangements of existing songs. This is a great way to build skills needed for creating your own wonderful music. I love composing and remixing alike, and of any song I've ever tried to remix, this is my favorite. However, it also took many hours of work to create. If you want to play along, the chords are:
intro - G F ; Chorus - G F Eb; bridge - C G Am G C G Gm Am D

"Nicely done"

date: May 23, 2008

Not to my normal liking of music, since I like things to be a bit more speedy, but I can't complain when something is done this well. It does pick up a bit later into the song, around 2:30, but if I had been in a bit of a different mood I might missed it.

I like the bit of snare you added into it as well as the cymbal useage. Can't tell what instument you used to keep up the main rift of the melody other than the piano but its 4:43 am, so kinda hard to tell anything really. ==;

Keep it up man.

Thanks! It's always cool to hear that somebody branched out of their comfort zone (in regards to listening to music) to listen to something I made. I think that the instrument you're referring to is just an electric piano. I really love the variety of sounds that an electric piano can make. It's perfect for keeping up a soft left hand arpeggio while being just as great with a kicking right hand melody.

"This is great, should've been in the original game"

date: May 22, 2008

I can really recognize the melody of Dire Dire Docks in this piece from the game, but you've really transformed it into more. It starts of gently, then seamlessly moves into a powerful explosion of sound about 4:45 into it. I really enjoy this piece, and would love to hear more, both video game and original.

We all know that it's hard for a friend or family member to pay compliments to a person since, on some level, there's always an obligation for the friend to give a compliment. But coming from somebody that is free to give his or her honest opinion, that really means a lot. I love the concept of the Audio portal on Newgrounds for that very reason. Compliments like yours and the others on this song so far are what an artist works for, as I'm sure all of us know. It gives inspiration and fuel for continuing the process. Thanks so much for your compliment. I really appreciate it.

This is great, perfect recreation of the song, it sounds very professional. Its kinda wierd hearing a drum part that sounds like it came from a set and not a synthesizer. Good stuff :D

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! I loved making this. Everytime I got a part right, I had to stop and admire the creativity of guy who composed it (I think it's Koji Kondo. I know he did a lot of games from that era. Star Fox, Mario, and Zelda at least.) Your response was just what I was going for. And yeah, the kit part is always a favorite of mine to make on songs. Especially on this song. The original synth part on a lot of songs from Mario 64 sounds really Steve Gadd style to me, for some reason.
