Standing on the rocky shore,
wondering what I'm hoping for.
I've never really been too sure,
and I've been wondering for days.
So I try my best to open up
and let it all just come uup
but the bigger things always get stuck
and I'm left in a daze.
Just then a girl walks up to me,
asks me if I am busy
and if I like photography
and would I take her picture?
She's standing right here on the beach
but yet she's still just out of reach.
I open up my mouth to speak
but instead I kiss her.

God knows this ocean shore
Isn't the same anymore.
I don't know if I can endure
another broken heart.
Out here in the rocky sand
I can't find the strength to stand
but I have to demand
another chance to start.

I see the ferry out in the bay
It seems so very far away.
If it were any other day,
I'd be out there, too.
I'd be out there on the deck
with my scarf around my neck
but I'd be such a nervous wreck,
'cuz I wouldn't be with you.
It was so many years ago,
just how many I don't know,
I was so young and I was so
unbelievable.
On the beach you seemed so odd,
as if touched by the hand of God,
and when I saw you I thought
you were quite incredible.

God knows this ocean shore
Isn't the same anymore.
It's different now, that's for sure,
and it'll never be the same.
Memories are buried here,
like so many empty cans of beer,
and I just can't help but fear
that it'll never be the same.

It's never, ever gonna be the same again.
