Hated the original since before you were born - My friends like to torment me with it, as well as an Anne Murray song I refuse to remember the name of, for good reason.
I give the remake a 8, the choice of song a 5, and the blessed shortness of it all an 7, so let's settle on a 6.5 average rounded up to an 7 star rating.
I much prefer the work you did with Palchelbel's Canon in D, which has always been a favourite. Keep it up!
