"Upward"

date: April 29, 2008

This is always a treat finding a piece such as this! For me, it is rare for a composition to stir me, but this one did. Where I expected it to drop, it didn't. Rather, it held me slightly over the edge of a cliff and whould never drop me. It was a nice arrangement. I knew I had heard something. BRAVO! ---

"Great sounds"

by: CFox
date: April 25, 2008

The sounds you used here were great, the mixing and orchestration really worked for me, I could hear everything I needed to hear, nothing was muddy or buried or stuck out. I do like how the harmonic rhythm is very straight, it lends itself well to the driving percussion which keeps on going, and the pacing of the piece doesn't stretch it out so that that texture gets old. The chord changes/voicing sound very smooth, very pleasing to the ear. I might suggest you use a little counterpoint in places where the chords don't change but a bit of extra push is needed, such as at 1:44, I hear the suspension which resolves down (which is quite awesome) but it is a bit faint, I think if you put some more activity in there, if not a chord change then some sort of moving line or maybe some kind of embellishment in the instrument that suspends/resolves, that would really make a world of difference. But all that is icing, I love the sounds and the feel!

"Great epic sound!"

date: April 24, 2008

Hy!

Great sounds and quality. I loved it - especially at 1:30 with the key change... great job.

Liked the percussions and the end too and the choir was fitting too. The beginning was like "The Rock" - really military like and epic.

Freat job! I loved it.

"A marble a carrot away from being a gem"

date: April 24, 2008

Like many of the entries on NG this one lacked dynamics. Yes there was an overall crescendo through the piece but there was no intricate dynamics and unfortunately I can't give you a 10/10 without it. Otherwise it was a brilliance piece, as the sound grew larger and bolder I got more and more excited, reminded me of a piece from the movie Gladiator. Very earthy and rough tones the complimented each other brilliantly with the chorus. Again, a great piece, just missing those intricate dynamics.

Respect,
DaJazzMAn
