Written for the Mac8 - Pico Punchout! competition.

I always thought that since Pico is such a small kid, and he weilds guns and saves his friends lives by violence. What goes on in his head, though? I imagine that he'd be really troubled by what he does for a living... this song is my interpretation of what he thinks.

Keep it easy, Newgrounds;

"nifty swell"

A nice steady introduction. The piano is very well orchestrated. I wish it were more then that but it fits very well for my devious mind to rescue my friends from danger.

"great song for Pico"

date: April 24, 2008

This is nice. Drums caught me off guard. Even though I was expecting Hip-Hop, I guess I wasn't prepared enough :P To me, this song sounded more, "nice" rather than the chaotic mind of Pico.... who knows, maybe his mind isn't chaotic at all. Mayhap he's perfectly fine with his "job" :P

Keep it REaL,

"ooooh intense."

yum, the melodies all complemented each other and the transitions were smooth, mixing good, all the works. good job! but here are some suggestions/complaints:

i think that for that "clubbed to death" feel and to strengthen all those woodwind instruments going around, some warm fuzzy strings would have been really nice.

maybe some subtle crash cymbal usage would have made the beat fit in better too.

sometimes the lead wind instrument sounded a little bit too synthetic, but i guess its hard to get around that electronically. also, the melody at the start seemed to be wandering a bit too much, but once more instruments picked up it got on track.

finally, for hte drum portions, maybe make them build up a little more intensity and have a little more of a change of atmosphere to get a grittier sound. IMO that would be clutch, since the only main change was the beat itself and the piano introduced. let variation occur there too! :)

yeah, thats all i really got to suggest. gj and gl! [if u got time, looka me :D]

"meow mix"

by: Quarl
date: April 19, 2008

What I'm listening to is a fine example of an ace track. The intro crescendos and decrescendos beautifully. The instruments swirl around really well, giving off a really troubled vibe. This was a little unexpected. When I saw this posted in the comp thread I practically jizzed myself. I was thinking we were gonna be fed another delicious dnb, but this really came out of the blue. Or at least that was my feeling.

gah, this track is sex. My only complaint is on behalf of the drums. I don't listen to a lot of hip hop, so if it's a specific kit you were going for and you achieved that then congrats, but to me I feel like the kit was a little disappointing. I'm not even sure where I'd start to attack it though. Dunno. :(

Regardless though this is a great song. Good luck!

Author's Response:

Ah. Well, my intention with the drums was to create a dirty "Clubbed to Death" kind of atmosphere.

Thanks for the review!
