Serenade for Strings and Piano

A beautiful serenade for strings and piano written in Db major. I felt I needed to write something today, so I thankfully was able to. Torn between strings and piano, I decided to use both. Hope you enjoy, and review.

It Made Me Cry....

I played the endless drop on bored.com and when I heared this I had to come and check out this page.
I joined litreally so I could tell you how amazing I think this is.
It moved me so much it made me cry!
I love the bit in the piano where the two darker notes come in I think that gives it another depth sorta like its angry about this loss it had. That's what I get from it.
I don;t know much about musical terms but I love this piece and think that you must be talented if you can create such a moving heartfelt piece,
Its amazing, thank you for creating it!

MusicalRocky responds:

Hah, well I'm glad it got used in that game, letting people listen to my music!

That's awesome that you joined just to write me a review! I guess I could be sorry it made you cry, but it is supposed to have some sad emotions, so I guess I did my job in a way.

I'm glad you enjoyed this piece on an emotional level; thanks for reviewing!

good work

It flowed beautifully and I loved the melody. I really enjoyed the piano. It's how I remember all the accompanists play the piano back when I was in singing school. It is very professional. I really liked it. On the other hand, the petal gave the chords too much time in some parts and it blended with other chords which made it sound a bit bad...but it didn't last for too long. I also loved the string section though I did not enjoy the MIDI. But the solo string was perfect. When that played it was gorgeous.

Anyway, thought I'd give you some criticism and there it was. Oh I loved the piano in the end it was GREAT.

Overall...AWESOME

MusicalRocky responds:

Hey!

I'm glad you like the piano. That's cool that you were in singing school. :] Ah, sometimes my pedals last too long when the piano is synthesized, it's easier to maintain on a real piano. :/

Glad you like the strings, though they're not MIDI--maybe you just meant synthesized? Anyways, I wish I could record this with a real orchestra. :[

Thanks for reviewing, glad you enjoyed it!

Great

This fit perfectly in Endless Drop...so sad and beautiful..

MusicalRocky responds:

Thank you!

Piano + Orchestra= Pwnage

I like the changes in dynamics, how in the piano suddenly goes from a calm feeling to a strong and powerful note(1:26), and yet with the violin part that doesn't happen when I was almost seeing it coming :) It was a pleasant surprise, a nice contrast.
I think the main melody is quite original, I can almost see Wladyslaw Szpilman playing and enjoying this piece. One of my favorite parts is how the notes are going up and then down (2:10), the piano solo. I liked the ending, I'm glad you didn't fade out lol. I've just noticed your ending sounds a bit like my latest song's ending (check it out if you haven't).
And wow, you never cease to amaze me. You just felt like writing something and THIS came up? It usually takes me months to think of a good song, and not always I can write it down even if I feel like it.
But one day I shall steal your secret and learn how to do such thing >;)

Great song Rocky, you get a five from me.

Fuoco

MusicalRocky responds:

Hey!

Should've known you would stop by ;)

Dynamics are one thing I try to pay attention to and vary. I do like the buildup of power in up to that F F in the piano melody too :D. I did it a bit when the solo violin played, but not so noticeably.

I'm glad you think the melody is original! I hope all my melodies are. Szpilman! :')

I don't know why I wrote that at 2:10, really, it has nothing to do with anything else in the piece. lol. I'm glad you liked the ending, that was one of my favorite parts to write :)

:D I'm glad you enjoyed this. I'm not really that amazing lol. I just like to write music. Generally if you really, really like doing something, you tend to be good at it (or so people tell me).

Thanks for the awesome review and the five!

Rocky

One thing.

Fade the ending, it shall be much more beautiful for an ending that way. Besides that, this is sweet!

-ImperfectDisciple

MusicalRocky responds:

Hey!

I don't know about more beautiful--that's rather subjective. It would've beean a much calmer ending, much like the beginning in fact. However, although this is a serenade, I wanted to contrast the beginning with the ending, and show a growth of power in the theme throughout. That's why I ended loud and strong. A fadeout would've diminished that idea. I can see why you wanted it though!

I'm glad you enjoyed the piece, and took the time to review.

Thanks,
Rocky
