this was a song i knocked up when i was new to the joys of reason arpegiator, and reason drum kits.

it has lived forgotten on a hard-drive for a few months, and now its ready to go out on the town!!

"I was kinda disappointed by the samey choruses but"

by: Bezman

I love the mix of instruments here.

The bongo-type drums are a great base and when guitars come in, it sounds sorta spanish-y.

I really wasn't expecting the electronic pulsing beats, but they sounded cool and I love the rolls that come after. Clapping was a nice touch.

The long droning noises after the 2nd bout of pulses sound kinda like African music somehow. Makes me think of a jungle.

I have 2 complaints:
1 - after 1:30ish, it all feels like it could use a bit of freshness. I think it could have worked well if you'd altered the dirty guitars as well as some other bits, instead of keeping the instrumental 'chorus' exactly the same each of the 3 times.

2 - the end. The bleep is great. But why the 1s of noise before the end of the track? It doesn't loop well onto its start and it'd just sound slightly irritating when it precedes a diffferent tune.

I was kinda disappointed by the samey choruses but loved the vibe and the refreshing mix of stuff.

Please follow this line of experimentation further.

thanks for a in depth review- you review request club are excellent at writing constructive reviews:)

i agree with you on the point of samey choruses now that you mention it- that one riff feels like its relied on too much.

if your interested, i have a song posted here called snorker-ace which is on the same style line as this, but i think it has more varyation than this one

"Nifty"

date: April 1, 2008

Oh man I love this shit where the music 'goes where it's not supposed to' but executes it well (that's how I exclusively used to write music when I smoked a lot of herb - you all haven't heard much of that yet).

Anywho keep writing and btw, I haven't had time to write anything lately (and everything I've fiddled with was ho hum) but I still fully intend to do a collab song in the future.

Author's Response:

cool, ive just been listening to your recent submissions and i sure am up for a collab.
ive spent the last two weeks of my spare dragging musical equipment up and down a hill thats only a few degrees shy of being a cliff, so i haven't been too productive niether

"Sweet"

Great song, loved the vsrying tempos, especially within the drum aspect, so hear something htat fast and that well done in a trance song is rare. Loved when everything slowed down too, just seemed to regain a little bit of calm and then back head first into the action. Great song, good job

"Jam Packed"

date: March 30, 2008

Wow, what a weird feel to it. The speed of the drums are very cool, especially with their variating tones, and the occasional guitar makes this sound good, When the main part kicks in it sounds slightly off quality, id suggest making it less jam packed. Also improve your change overs to be slightly smoother. It was a cool beat though, nice and variated. But i like the way you tryed using as many instruments as possible. I especially liked the clapping hands. Very good.

thank you for taking the time to review:)

theres definatley a lot going on in this tune,
i do generally go for excess in my songs and lots of people find it annoying.
my influence for putting songs together comes from the patton/zappa influence,
so subtlety isnt really my strong point:)
