"Watermelon Man" is a jazz standard written by Herbie Hancock
The tune is a jazz standard and has been recorded over two hundreds times.
i did that for a collaboration wich started here:
http://www.newgrounds.com /bbs/topic/863556/1
and i ended to make it alone
anyway, for your versions you can use some of the stuff i made, the trumpet head, the basic groove ...
there is a bass line also by spamwangler
everything you can find here:

"Pretty Nice"

date: September 2, 2008

Quite Honestly..You did a great job on this one. I have heard a few versions of this song but this one ranks in with the top three. The beginning was a little strange. it sounded like you had more than one Drum beat going on and it didn't work out all that well but everything after 00:10 Was Pretty Much Perfect. 9 out of 10.
Keep up the good Work.

thanx
there are actually three rhythms going, drums AND percussion (acoustic and electronic)
soon I'll record a trumpet solo on it (I keep telling myself that for at least two months ...)

"Needs more horns"

date: August 20, 2008

The trumpet in the beginning doesn't work for some reason, and I think it's because that style of lead playing requires a horn section beneath it to make it work out. Since it seems like you layered most of this anyway maybe you could write up some 2nd - 4th trumpet parts and record them underneath.

not a bad idea, maybe later i will, also i really should record a solo on it

"This is great!"

date: August 1, 2008

I love the original song by Hancock, and this song is an amazing rendition of the original. I think my favourite was the bass line, it really contributed to the song itself. The trombone line is also a great addition to the song.

Well done sir. 5/5

"Very well done"

date: July 4, 2008

That's what it seems like to me, anyway. :) Kind o'hard to sit still, unsure if that's because of the music or because I feel like there's more I need to do. X) Lol. Also, in some parts, it's not necessarily my taste, but I can hear the different notes' sounds and instruments very clearing. Most often that's a good thing; yet sometimes it helps to mix things. But I tend to like the former, rather than the latter. :3 Again, very well done. :) ^,^ By the way... Regarding one of your responses awhile ago. It's true it would really suck to not be able to hear anymore, because you wouldn't necessarily be able to hear anymore music, but at the same time, it's not about the sounds, necessarily - it's all about the emotion. :) Or something. XD Lol. :3
