Like futurism and nostalgia having sex
It's so strange to hear songs such as this. When we think about chiptunes, our minds automatically transport us to simpler times: days when Ronald Reagan was fighting with Russia, the American public was vomiting over New Coke, and I was sitting at home, reading some new comic called Calvin and Hobbes after breakfast, then quickly running to my NES. But that's all changed.
As we slip easily into our daydreams, we are so concerned with re-living our glorious pop-culture pasts that we fail to see what artists like PixlCruchr and many others are doing; taking our pasts and flinging them into the future, like some pseudo-Doc Brown's, except their DeLorean's have manifest themselves as computers and chiptune programs.
And so new is being made out of the old, recalling what was once thought to be dead back to life, like a digital zombie. This song gives me hope. It makes me remember who I once was. But it also reassures me that I'll always be that kid, sitting on the living room floor, letting my mind drift through a wonderfully pixelated world of imagination and possibility.
Please contact me if you would like to use this in a project. We can discuss the details.
