Well, here it is, in all its glory. Ten times better than the first. Better than The Deep. Still trying to master The Deep. More powerfull, awsomely epic, has a sliding synth, has an old-time piano part. It is good. It is Gun. But please, feel free to leave some damn reviews. I want them. I NEED them.

"Epic, alright!"

Wow! I really dug this track. I'm newly familiar with a lot of electronic genres (thanks, Ishkur!), but as far as I can tell there is not a lot of precedence for your style here, which is a good thing! Congrats on making a near seven-minute piece that never feels dull or repetitive, that's quite an accomplishment on its own.

So, the main kicks were great with that crashing metal kind of sound and I'm a big fan of sliding synth sounds myself, and these had a nice sharp, piercing tone which is exactly what they're for. I also like some of the more old-school sounding drum hits you used (hi-hat and snare esp.). From the interlude four minutes in until the ending this is really intense, with the building tempo and reprise fading out, great job on this part.

As far as criticisms, I really found myself wanting to hear some crash cymbals during the climax to add to the, uh, climax-ity. Trying some treated gunshot sounds during this section could have a lot of potential as well. Also, I thought the more melodic sounds overwhelmed the drums at times. I think people's ears automatically search for melody (even sometimes hearing ones that aren't there), so the melody, even a very intricate one such as this, will still come through with slightly louder drums to provide a bit more punch. And this isn't really a criticism at all, but the piano melody didn't really sound "old-time" to me at all, in fact the melody sounded almost East Asian. Again, more just an observation. It was one of my favorite elements of the song.

So all in all, great work! I'm looking forward to your next piece.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the great review! And I am in the process of trying to find some spaghetti western sounding gunshots, specifically the ones they used in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly = D And I'll try putting cymbals towards the end. I'll also try raising the drum parts, but the last time I did, it souded like shit. But I'll see what I can. Make sure you look out for another version of this, because with these last three reviews, I have a bit to work on.
And I want perfection, dammit : P
Thanks once again = D

"Cool song!"

date: March 4, 2008

I liked that sliding synth, it added a cool effect to the song (the sliding did)

I'm not too sure about the snap though. It kind of got annoying after a while.

I like how around 1:55 you had the song sounding very epic and full.

The piano melody was really cool. However, let me recommend some tweaking of the piano:
Put it to the preset 'Concert Piano'.
Add reverb, lots of it, with a full room size. All the other reverb presets are up to you, whatever floats your boat.
Then increase the band 5, 6, and 7 in a 7 Band EQ (like Fruity Paramatic EQ)
Then tweak song Hardness and Muffle or whatever in the FL Keys window...and there you have it! The piano will sound much better, I assure. it.

You are right, this song is very powerful. Lots of strong instruments and cool solos/melodies. But watch the bass, you had a bit of an overload from 5:00-5:40.

Again, nice song! I like your ending, how you simmer the song down to the piano and hat, and the fade-in went along well

5/5 from me!
Keep making music. We should collab or something.

Author's Response:

Hey, thanks for the review! Once I get that piano sound fixed, I'll pop this song back on here. And I actually never noticed the bass problem before, but now that you mentioned it, I see what you mean. I'll get on that, too. And yes, collab is definately an option. I'll PM you in about a week, I'm pretty busy at the moment. But once I'm ready, be prepared to rock you socks off!!!! Yeeeaaahhaaa =P

"Best track so far :D"

date: March 1, 2008

This is your best song so far in my opinion

I like the hats, they sound very professional. The slides you put in sound very good, and add a lot to the song. You don't seem to have any clipping problems anymore which is very good, well done on that. Sometimes it takes me a good 2 hours or more just to solve clipping problems. I'm glad you got rid of that shitty clap sample :P The tune is bloody awesome, I might steal :P I also have noticed you stopped using the "deep" sound effect, which is good, the tempo change sounds awesome as well, your percussive skills on this song are great. The flute sound awesome as well, i just noticed that on the second play through :P

On the other hand though, the piano sounds to much like fruity loops, if you brought up the higher frequencies and brought down the mid, and put a nice warm reverb on it it sound a lot better. The opening sound effect should be played as long as it does in the song, and gets a little bit annoying, in my opinion. The snare drum you used, should have a big reverb, high bass, low mid, and highish frequencies. I can't really hear much of a bass line either, but that could because I just woke up :P. A filter on the master channel to stop high piercing frequencies should be used as well, cause sometimes you don't hear them at low volumes, but play high, you almost blow your brains out :P

Not much else to say I think, only minor tweaks are needed in this song, well done on your best track I have heard so far :D

Your friend,

Anima :D

Author's Response:

Hmmm, thanks for the suggestions, I'll try those out. But to be honest, I don't have a flute sound in the song= ) The only thing i can think of that sounds like a flute is the higher strings part. And I didn't really have a bassline, it wasn't really appropriate(in my mind) for the "old" style of the song. I'll try and see if I can add one though, but...

The tempo change was a suggestion made by my great friend Matt Mullins. He has some music here on Newgrounds under Spazbunny. You should check him out, review him some. Especially our collab, Obscurity. Thanks once again!

"Great!"

date: February 24, 2008

A smooth experimental track, doesn't sound very western to be, but nevertheless, it's a great track. Smooth and simple, with progressional flow and varied effects in it. Great stuff, keep it going!
