Testing out some of my new software. Sounds good so far. This piece is naturally driven by the synth distorted guitar arp as it wanders up and down the scale. I had a cool d'cota patch that was fed to a guitar amp/fx sim followed by a delay. Really cool effect in the end. The piano is Steinberg's The Grand SE (very very nice sounding piano...). A few other pads whisked in for extra ambiance. Bon Appetit.

"I like to listen to music loud"

date: February 22, 2008

maybe too loud, cuz that lead synth was killing my ears...

Its better now, turned it down haha. The piano patches you used( I believe I heard electric and acoustic) seemed a tad out of place with the grainy distorted lead, but the melody they played was very pretty and complimented the arp well. I wish the string pad was louder, was really digging the sound of it, barely audible though. strings should really make a song more full. At 1:39 when the electric piano came in for the first time, I think percussion should have come in at the same time, just a basic kick beat. Something to add some flow and built up. Drums variated swell. The melody should be more active at the end of the piece, during the climax. Ended wayyyyy too abruptly for the build it had. I know you liked the effect at the end( twas very cool) but you could have implemented it better.

None the less, a very intresting entertaining piece you got here. Keep it up.

Author's Response:

thanks for the critique. it helps to get some second opinions on this stuff - considering I usually am concentrating on just one or two elements at a time instead of taking lots of time to step back and take a look at the big picture.

I think my computer also froze and lost one of my original piano sections and that pissed me off so much i couldn't think straight for like half an hour. i don't know why composing can be difficult and upsetting and yet so satisfying at the same time.

"Wow"

Very nice. I love it. It jumps around the scale a lot, but keeps a level of originality. And yes that piano is very beautiful. But the drums were a little bit too loud, particularly the snare. But that won't put me off the 10/10, 5/5, and download. ;D

Author's Response:

it was weird - because it seemed even though i lowered the gain on the drums just a tad - it was too much. but at the same time, the drums do stand out quite a bit. I guess at that point i had to go with personal preference because i liked how that kit sounded way in the forefront.
