Piece written in early 2008 for two pianos. It precedes Episode 2, a more recent composition for two pianos. The pianos are meant to be placed on opposite sides of the stage, and the "recording" reflects this.

"Enjoyable"

This song was a joy to listen to,loved the changes and the random jazz like tangents you;d go on. Not a very good ending for it, should've had a more epic one, just not a load of silence. Really nice piano skills too. Just an other all very well deserved score for a nice song

Author's Response:

Lol, these aren't my piano skills, this is synthesized. It also sounds really hard because it's actually for two pianos.

I really like my ending on this. I'm not someone who really writes epic-sounding music, and I think the ending worked in bringing the piece back to what it felt like at the beginning. The concluding chord pulled the piece back to center, in my opinion.

"Quiet"

date: April 6, 2008

Not really sure what to think with this, there is a very quiet tune here most of the way so it sounds very silent in a way, sounds to be well played but doesn't really stand out all to much, in a way it works and sounds good but in another way it sounds to be lacking in something that sticks out.

The intro is pretty nice but it doesn't really sound to go anywhere which is a shame. I mean the tune itself is pretty nice being quiet and everything but I think it could still be a little louder most the way through and still have that kind of relaxing feel to it. Good job on some parts to this though like more towards the end and middle.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review. I suppose it doesn't go as far as it could, and I do wish it were longer. It probably could be, but oh well.

It's not well-played, either, because... well, it's not actually played. There are crescendos and things that the synthesizer chooses not to include, which hurts the overall sound of the piece.

"A good intro"

by: Coop83
date: April 5, 2008

I'm not entirely sure what this is an intro for - the introduction is a little ambiguous, as you should be able to ascertain what a song relates to by the sound of it. This doesn't give me any feeling at all, which is saddening.

If you were to make it a little longer, maybe it would be something like a Final Fantasy piece, where you could have the white screen, with the author's names fading into and out of the screen, just to keep this going on a lot longer.

As it fades in and out, it doesn't loop too well, so I couldn't really advise you to make it loop better, just lengthening is the only option really.

Author's Response:

This doesn't really relate to anything. It's absolute music, and it draws from concepts of minimalism, which is usually an acquired taste. People usually either love or hate minimalism. I suppose the sound I was going for was neutral with slight optimism, if I want to over analyze it, and I prefer not to. I didn't write this for any purpose, really, and maybe that's the problem. Maybe my themes were overused? Sorry you didn't enjoy it. :(

I like this one a lot. The piano sounds so perfect (is it a real piano?) and the sound quality is excellent overall.

The tunes you play here are a bit unusual (at least to me), but I like them nonetheless.

I am amazed how this song works, as there's nothing else but the piano. No other instruments. But the atmosphere you create with the piano is very dense. Keep it up!

Author's Response:

Unfortunately it's not a real piano. It's actually two pianos, and if you use headphones or place your speakers further apart, you'll hear that the pianos are placed on opposite sides of the "stage." Hopefully I'll be able to record it with someone eventually; a lot of the chords sound like they're being played with sledgehammers.

This piece was somewhat experimental, and the textures and pitch sets kind of reflected this. Like I said above, this piece draws on minimalism, which is usually an acquired taste. Glad you like it!
