This is from our (relatively) new CD, The Swing of Things. Personally I'm not happy with the mastering job, but we got a huge discount, because we've got connections. :)

So enjoy 'I Burn Bridges,' and stay tuned after the song ends for our hidden track from the CD (Swing Thing, the CD's namesake), a special treat for anyone who cares enough to listen to us! It starts around 5:50, so you don't have to listen to such a long period of silence.

Also, our trombone player quit the band, and we're still breaking in the new one, so don't expect our next CD soon. But I'll probably upload more of our 2006/2007 CD in the near future.

Edit: If you want to vote zero, I'd appreciate a review letting me know why. We get plenty of good reviews, and that's great, but we want to improve, so don't be afraid to get ugly!

Great

I loved it. im used to listening to reel big fish, mustard plug, and the aquabats and i like your style. The only complaint i have is about the horns sounding kinda dead (every says that right :/ ) other than that its great.

HyruleanHyroe responds:

Yeah...:(

Speaking of the Aquabats, we are totally going to see them live in November. If you're in Ohio, you should definitely stop in and catch the show!!

nice song with few flaws

for starters, i really enjoyed your song, nice and mellow but sounds like a lot of fun to perform on stage. liked the guitar/horns combination, and the lyrics were fitting nicely. but i wouldn't be me if i wasn't picky when it comes to music.
One can clearly hear your band is relatively young and therefore a little uneasy. a good example would be the horn part around 2:39. the fast transitions (g-a-g-a-g if i'm not mistaken) sound shaky and a little out of place, you might consider making those parts easier to play.
The biggest flaw in my opinion is the intro. the keyboard doesn't fit the mood at all. you could try to have the whole intro till the rhythm guitar played by horns, i think it fit in better.
but those are just my two cents :)
I'm looking forward to your new album!
cheers, Timotheus

HyruleanHyroe responds:

Well, for starters :), I'm glad you enjoyed the song! Everything we do is fun to play, for sure. We wouldn't play it if it wasn't. It's just a question now of if it is fun to listen to. :P

This recording is from a couple of years ago. We were young, indeed. The fast transitions are off because, at the time, there was poor communication between myself (the trumpet) and our ex-trombonist. I wrote the part to be syncopated, and he always played it straight, so we ended up unwittingly playing in between the two. Aaaaaawkwaaaaard. They sound much more in place when the horns can agree on the method.

As for the biggest flaw, you and I are in total agreement. It's not a part of the song. It wasn't before, and it still isn't. We don't have a keyboard in our band. When our singer, Brian, brought home the first mix of the recording, we listened to it and were like, 'What? What's that keyboard?' He said that he just sort of threw it in there one day when he was talking to our recording guy. And it just sort of stayed there. Rest assured, you won't hear keyboards in any of our live shows, at least not yet. Normally it does start off with just a guitar riff, followed by drums, and then the song starts.

ANYwho, I don't mean to sound like I'm making excuses, I just get excited about competent and helpful reviews, and tend to blab a lot. Thanks for the kind wishes, and keep checking back, just on the off-chance that we ever actually finish the new album! :P
