My friend Zuzana sang this beautiful ancient Slovakian lullaby. Here's an English translation:

Black eyes, go to bed
Black eyes, go to bed 'cause you have to wake up early in the morning
'Cause you have to wake up early in the morning

Morning, morning, morning
Morning, morning, morning when the sun rises
When the sun rises

The sun is already up
The sun is already up, and my lovely girl isn't coming
And my lovely girl isn't coming

The sun is already up, and my lovely girl isn't coming
My lovely girl isn't coming

Now that I know the lyrics, it seems sadder than before :'(

"A language for music"

date: February 26, 2009

The language truly is beautiful to hear in song. I'm fortunate enough to be in Slovakia right now, and the language is so fluid sounding. The language and the country itself are works of art.

Indeed they are - it's quite a poetic language.

Isn't it amazing how really only a voice can reach your soul more then music with instruments go's to show that you don't need to scream or play music load to get your point across. masterful.

I'm from Slovakia as well.

Pretty awesome song. The echo gives it kind of heavenly sound and at times, it almost seems like there's some subtle trumpet in the background.

"Beautiful singing"

by: Esn
date: May 8, 2008

Slavic languages are so alike. I speak Russian, yet I understood the song. Many of the words are "old Russian" words that aren't used often in Russian except in songs and poems, and some of the grammar is odd, but the roots of the words are all the same.

Anyway, the singing here was beautiful. Just excellent.
