Author Comments

It's a conflicting set of emotions that seems (to me) to portray a quiet slipping away into death caused by slow almost unnoticeable poisoning. All the resonant siney pads you could ever hope for... A little bit of Shakuhachi thrown in for good measure. While drums are not exactly my forte on most pieces, this one may be one of the exceptions (at least how well it fits every thing else).

"Very nice..."

date: June 26, 2008

I have to admit, I usually don't review too often anymore for anyone. I'm so busy anymore it's sick, however; I figured I'd check this out while I work on my College Design class.

I've come to the conclusion that this song is very very catchy and excellent for doing the design work I'm doing right now.

Great ideas are strewn about in there, and like em. Great work, Josh.

Hey thanks! Glad you still find some good stuff in my portfolio. I wish I could remember what it was a year ago that caused me to write something like this.

My memory is really bad - I'm sure most people see that by now.

"powerful."

It's fantastic. Some of the times where there is a sound like a flute, or something like it, you could make that into a whole other piece.

A slim piece of heaven.

Author's Response:

It really has all these weird transient elements to it...for the life of my I can never remember how to duplicate this stuff. Lots of resonances though. That might be what sounds like a flute.

"Lovely"

This is what I was talking about with telling a story. While it is long, and builds very slowly, you still get that feel that this is more than just sound your listening to. You said so yourself in the Author's Comments, and I have to say I agree with that synopsis. I could see someone taking this and making a flash with it, something that people would watch and likely wind up crying by the end.
There's a story in this somewhere, and someone's going to bring it to life.

Author's Response:

I have to admit - that would be pretty cool. I've actually got an appointment lined up tomorrow to meet with someone about doing some scores...but it's only for a commercial (one of those 20 min DVD's promoting a product - not quite the big screen but hey).

I do rather like this one as it's long but still holds interest moderately well (can be a very difficult thing to do in some genres...I suppose ambient a little easier but still). I remember showing one of my songs to a good friend way way back in high school and she telling me that she wanted to cry at the end of the piece. It kind of made me think "wow - that must really be a sad song!". I had just never really thought of my music before that time as being something that people would be emotionally touched by - just that they might think it's "cool".

so now I have a different paradigm on that kind of thing.

I forgot I hadn't responded to this review.

thanks. This is my highest rated right now - i guess it makes sense - this one is probably also the most emotionally charged...which seems to influence how people feel about it naturally.

this was another one of those where all the elements seemed to just seamlessly balance themselves out as I went about mixing. It left room for me to be more creative with the progression and structure of the song itself.
