I've been listening to a lot of Calyx recently. I wanted to try and get a morphing bass sound out of the garage band tools. Not easy to do :(

Regardless, here's my little experiment. I noted that some stereos can't get that bass out right, so if it sounds odd try using headphones. Feed Back much appreciated.

Also, I don't really approve of using samples, but hypocritically, I love Sin City ;P

"Great drums/synths, could be mixed better"

date: February 13, 2008

I love the feedback synth that comes in the middle of the sample! The rest of the synths are solid, and the drum programming sounds tightly wound around the rest of the track.

The overall mixing seems a little weaker than it should be though - namely the sample from sin city is too loud. When it cuts out and the synths/drums fully kick in, there's no "oomph," it instead feels like it LOSES speed because of how overpowering the sample seemed (even though he was speaking in a low, quiet voice). The entire track seems to lack some of that overall. You can tell it should be powerful...but some of the synths/drums just aren't loud enough and don't hit hard enough.

Great songwriting, good melodies/synth selection, but would benefit a lot from better mixing.

ar, good review! I really liked the part where you talked about the mix. That was my favorite. I thought I could have used more feed back on the drums though. All in all, I'll give this review a 9 and a 5. You know... to balance out all the zero voters.

wub wub wub love that bass!!! wasnt too repetitive either a very good effort. U use garageband? well that program aint that good but u have kicked out a good sound on it worthy of a club anthem or an underground banger!!!

I use FL Studio google that and see if u can download it its fun the latest version is Fruity Loops 7

January 9, 2008

Author's Response:

Yeah, I know all about fruity loops. A lot of the guys here use it, but I'm more interested in Reason or Logic. From what I've found, people who switch from FL to reason hate going back. Thanks for the review!

I like. I feel the drums need more compression. Strings should be just a little bit louder, and seem sort of off key. Bass sounds great, just about perfect in every single aspect (but nothing more than that). Great structure, it really kicks off well after the voice samples shittles. Yay well done anyway

"not bad"

date: December 30, 2007

i know how hard it is to get that sound out of garage band having used it for ages nicely done

-1 star for repetitiveness
-1 star for the garage band sample (club dance beat )

December 30, 2007

Author's Response:

Uhh, dude, there is no sample. There are like, 60 beats labeled club dance beat in garage band, and if you really think I used one of them you would have to be more specific if you wanted to prove anything :P

In your defense however, I did take the bass drum from the club dance beat 1 and effected it some. The snare is from the pop drum kit but EQ'd a bit, and the... OHHHHHHH....lol. I didn't think I used any samples but I see where you got it from. It's that snare side stick sounding rhythm. Forgot about that one. Damn, now I feel all hypocritical. Club dance beat 22. The bass was turned down on that one so that only the stick rhythm came through, regardless, it plays a pretty important element in the track so I'll give you that :P
