First of all, nice effect with the thunder! The voice is inaudible but maybe you meant it to be that way? So far, I'd have to say this is my favorite piece of yours by far! It's very cool and intense while at the same time sort of giving off a sense of unescapable doom.

In the second part of this song... where it get's all slow... I think maybe an organ could have served you well. Personally, I think the way you ended this was not nearly as good as how you started it. It kind of left me hanging and wanting more.

A very nice piece with emotion and nice effects. I like it alot... keep it up!

voice seems very unclear- and if there was like supposed to be rain and thunder effects, they sound more like white noise than anything else really. Cool dramatic strings effects, lovin' them woodwinds too. Cool composition- the noisy rain sort of adds a layer of dirt to it though, which isn't really of my liking.

Oh anyways, 'tis a goooody track

yo bro,
real nice track, mood is good, v emotive as per.
i prefer the instrumentation of the second half, all seems to sit a little better. melodic content is great.
when i eventually get a cello, oboe and a flute (clarinet's ready to go) i look forward to recording some live versions of your tracks, they deserve more than electronic instruments gosh darn it

Author's Response:

Hey, Mike Oldfield !

I do understand you prefer the second part. It's more melodic, more emotive and stuff.
The first depicts the fall of the Tower, when the second part pictures the ruin of that same tower. So yeah, the two part are pretty different.

My instruments aren't that electronic (unless they really are?) !

Which makes me think, i haven't been to your page for ages. I think i'm gonna let a little review before my internet cuts.

"very neo-zelda"

The rain effect could have used a little more dynamic modulation, instead of just being a constant drone. When I first heard it, I thought you were using a bad cable or something. Then I realized you probably used some sort of composition program, and that it was intentional. The thunder piece then made that obvious. Real rain comes in sheets, it doesn't fall steady. Yeah, I'm being a nitpicking fag. Sue me.

Also, you spent too much time in the melody, and not nearly enough in your bass register. Bass notes aren't just there to reinforce the in-line melody, the should preferrably be doing their own piece of polyphony. Dixie-land jazz is good stuff, and I think it would fatten up your compositions if you were to study it a bit.

All in all, nice solid video game music

Author's Response:

Your comment about the rain is pretty strange, as it is an effect sampled from a real rain. Same goes for the thunder strike sound.

Also, you're not the first one to say i don't spend enough time on bass. Yet, i tried to make it a bit more present for this one, and i think it is already too much.

But anyways, thanks for the review and advices !
